  1. Third Mainland bridge reopens to the public after repairs

The 11.8km Third Mainland Bridge has been reopened to the public after extensive repairs to the bridge, which serves as the main artery between the Lagos mainland and the Island. The repairs include fixing of failed portions, asphalting and installation of streetlights.

  1. Landmark Beach risks demolition for Lagos-Calabar coastal highway

Paul Onwuanibe, the owner of Landmark Beach, expressed concern about the Lagos State Government’s plan to close down this multimillion-dollar beach resort. He revealed that the State Government notified him that his beach resort must be removed as it falls within the right-of-way of a planned 700-kilometer (435-mile) coastal highway linking the former capital city to Calabar, a port city.

Dangote Refinery has commenced sale of diesel and jet aviation fuel to customers in Lagos, Nigeria. Devakumar Edwin, a group executive at Dangote, confirmed to Reuters that the company has begun distributing diesel and jet fuel to the local market which is an important step in Nigeria’s drive for energy independence.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has distributed food palliatives to residents across the 20 Local Governments (LGs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). In Bariga LCDA, Shomolu LGA, Yaba LCDA, Igando-Ikotun LCDA, it was observed that individuals ranging from civil servants, aged and vulnerable to physically-challenged groups benefitted from the exercise.

  1. Areas in Lagos that enjoy 16 to 18 hours power supply

The National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has released a list of Lagos State subscribers of the Band A and B tariff plans who are slated to get at least 16 hours of the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company and the Eko Electricity Distribution Company daily consumption.

Chairman of Badagry local government area, Olusegun Onilude, has announced that the council would start its food discount markets by May 2024. The food markets provide Lagosians with opportunity to buy cheap food amid the dramatic rise in cost of living. Similar markets are operational across the State.

 

  1. Sanwo Olu’s daughter weds heartthrob

The daughter of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Modupe, tied the knot with her lover, Oladele Johnson, on Saturday, April 6, in Lagos. The union, which was solemnised at the Cathedral Church of Christ in Lagos by the Anglican Bishop of Lagos, Rt. Revd. Ifedola Okupevi, took place after the couple’s traditional wedding.
