Sanwo-Olu spotted wearing luxury watch at Davido’s wedding

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been spotted wearing a luxury wristwatch valued at thousands of dollars.

According to Lagos Watching, an Instagram blog devoted to spotting watches in and from Nigeria, Governor Sanwo-Olu wore the Patek Philippe 5930G-011 World Time Chronograph Singapore wristwatch at the June 25 wedding of Nigerian musician, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

The Luxury watch was revealed during the Watch Art Grand Exhibition in Singapore in 2019 as a limited edition of only 300 pieces. In a website post,  A luxury watch store and collector, k2luxury,  detailed that the watch “features a chronograph with a world time complication, a 24-hour and day/night indication for the 24 time zones, and an instantaneous 30-minute counter located at 6 o’clock.

The push-piece at 10 o’clock allows for easy time zone changes. Another noticeable feature is “Singapore” on the black city-ring, which replaces “Beijing” for the GMT+8 time zone. Additionally, the watch boasts a self-winding movement that is visible through the sapphire case-back, along with the gold bi-directional micro-rotor, and the inscription “Patek Philippe Singapore 2019” engraved on the crystal”.

Sanwo-Olu’s collection of Patek Philippe watches

In 2023, the Lagos State Governor was also seen wearing another Patek Philippe watch, this time the 5930P World Time Flyback Chronograph. This watch is rumored to be valued at around 169 million naira.

The sighting of this luxurious Swiss watch sparked several reactions from Lagosians, who believed the amount spent on the wristwatch could have been used more beneficially for the residents of Lagos.

“His salary can’t even buy this. How did @jidesanwoolu, a public officer, get the money to buy this wristwatch? A governor who has no visible enterprise,” questioned a tweep, @realTobiAkinbo.

Another X user, @General_Oluchi, wrote, “How many free water dispensing stations can Sanwo-Olu’s £136,189 wristwatch give to those in his state of origin?”
