Food prices reveal mixed results

Prices of food in Lagos markets continue to provide mixed results, according to a Nairametrics survey. While the price of staple foods like rice have dropped in the past month, prices of pepper, frozen foods, egusi and ogbono have surged.

LAMATA consults with royal father over Green Line

Officials of the state’s transport authority, LAMATA, on Thursday met with the Ogudu Oshadi of Ogombo Kingdom, Alayeluwa Oba Muslim Abiodun Ogunbo. The meeting was part of ongoing community engagement efforts for the 69 km Green Line rail project, which will connect Marina to the Lekki free trade zone.

Sanwo-Olu swears in eight new permanent secretaries

Governor Sanwo-Olu on Thursday swore-in eight new permanent secretaries at the Lagos House in Ikeja. The new Permanent Secretaries and their portfolios are Mr Olanrewaju Bajulaye to the Ministry of Arts, Tourism and Culture, Dr Abiola Idowu to HEFAMAA, Mrs Aderinsola Olanrewaju to the Citizens Mediation Bureau, Mr Tajudeen Mahmud to the Ministry of Finance, Mr Wasiu Agbabiaka to the Civil Service Commission, and Mr Adebayo Olayinka to the Ministry of Wealth Creation.

Ikorodu college gets new classrooms, sports facilities

Meanwhile, the Governor has inaugurated a block of classrooms, a mini-football pitch and a multi-purpose sports court at Keme Balogun Junior/Senior College in Ibeshe, Ikorodu. “By building 18 new classrooms, renovating existing structures, and adding modern amenities like a food canteen, an Intro-Tech block, and sports fields, we are creating an environment where our students can truly thrive academically, socially, and physically,” the Governor said.

Imams urged to reduce use of loudspeakers

Amid the Ramadan season, the general manager of the state’s environmental protection agency, Tunde Ajayi, has urged Imams to respect the right of others by not using loudspeakers during the middle of the night. “Please, let’s respect the rights of others as taught by Islām by observing our Qiyāmul-Layl without the use of loudspeakers,” Mr. Ajayi said.

Vanguard recognizes Agboyi-Ketu Chairman

The board of editors at Vanguard Media Limited have selected the executive chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Dele Oshinowo, as the Grassroots Development Icon of the year for its 2024 Vanguard Personality of the Year awards. The editors praised Mr. Oshinowo for his “remarkable achievements in redefining governance at the local level and changing negative perceptions about local government administration.”

Wahab meets commissioner of police

The commissioner for environment and water resources, Tokunbo Wahab, hosted the commissioner of police, Olorundare Moshood Jimoh. Mr. Wahab framed the visit as part of the ministry’s efforts to “enhance environmental enforcement, tackle infractions, and ensure compliance with sanitation laws across the state.”

Vacancies open up at Lagos Water Corporation

Vacancies have opened up at the Lagos Water Corporation, a state agency. The open positions cut across a number of roles, including Production Officer, Legal Officer and IT officers. The deadline to apply is April 10, according to the talent firm in charge of the recruitment.

Container falls on Kara bridge

A container fell and led to intense traffic at the Kara bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Thursday, Punch Newspaper reported. “Motorists and commuters were forced to endure long hours of traffic congestion, with some taking to social media to express their frustration,” the newspaper added.

ATMs don’t meet CBN standards – Report

A report from the Foundation of Investigative Journalism revealed that some ATMs along Opebi, Obafemi Awolowo Way and Allen Avenue do not meet standards set by the Central Bank of Nigeria. The ATMs were empty of cash, slow to respond and frequently returned error messages.
