Table water producers supports ban of single-use-plastic
The Association for Table Water Producers (ATWAP) of Nigeria has expressed support for the state government’s ban of single-use-plastic, including sachet water. According to Business day newspaper, the National President of ATWAP, Clementina Ativie said the association will work with the Lagos State Plastic Waste Management Scheme to ensure easy implementation of the new policy.
No properties destroyed in labour action
The Lagos chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has denounced the statement made by the government that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers’ Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU), and NUJ destroyed properties of the state owned media houses. According to Sahara reporters, the NUJ chairman, Mr Adeleye Ajayi, made this statement during an assessment of the broadcast stations on Wednesday.
Govt reiterates commitment to women’s empowerment, financial inclusion
The state government on Wednesday reiterated its commitment to empowering women and promoting financial inclusion, particularly in hard to reach communities, to ensure they achieve independence and self-reliance. The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sustainable Development Goals, Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih, highlighted this during the advocacy programme of over 100 women at Odomola in the Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of the Epe area of Lagos State.
E-learning platform launched for WAEC, NECO candidates
The state government has launched a special e-learning platform named Eko Learners’ support, to help candidates ahead of the May\June senior school certificate examinations. Tribune Newspaper reported that the state’s Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun unveiled this at the Education Resource Centre in Ojodu.
Shanties, markets at Cele set for demolition
The Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has revealed its plans to demolish shanties and illegal market structures around Cele underbridge. Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab revealed the intent after an inspection tour of the drainage enforcement in the area.
Traffic to be diverted in parts of Lagos Island
The state government has announced plans to divert traffic ahead of technical checks, duct calibration and land route repairs at some selected part of Lagos island. The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi said the repairs would begin on January 17 and end on January 31.

Three escape death as tanker explodes in Epe
Three persons escaped death as a fuel tanker exploded in Epe-Ijebu Odeyemi Expressway, by the old toll-gate. However, there were no casualties, according to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
One dead in multi-vehicle accident
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the death of one person in an accident involving two trucks and motorcycles on Wednesday. The accident occured at Mile 2, inward Cele.
Arabic teacher sentenced to 21 years over attempted rape of minor
The Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced one Oladosu Sakiru, an Arabic teacher, to 21 years imprisonment for attempted rape of an unidentified 13-year-old pupil.
