Ajayi Oluwadamilare, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), represents Ibeju-Lekki 2 in the 10th Lagos State House of Assembly.
Before he was elected as a lawmaker in 2023, Mr. Oluwadamilare served as the Special Adviser on Commerce, Industry, and Cooperatives to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Early life
The lawmaker was born on April 15.
He pursued his higher education in Lagos, attending Lagos State Polytechnic and later the University of Lagos, Akoka
Political career
Oluwadamilare’s political journey began in 1971 when he joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
In an interview with City People Magazine in January 2024, he recounted his first attempt at leadership: running for chairmanship. He was asked by party leaders to step down for a colleague, not because of a lack of competence but to adhere to party rules.
Afterward, he became a member of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in his local government, Ibeju-Lekki.
In 1999, Oluwadamilare shifted to the Alliance for Democracy (AD), the ruling party in Lagos State, marking the beginning of his active participation in local politics.
In 2018, Oluwadamilare was appointed as the Supervisor for Works when the Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) were established. Under his leadership, the first secretariat in Ibeju-Lekki LCDA was constructed.
His ambition to serve in the Lagos State House of Assembly began as early as 1996, with multiple attempts to secure a seat. In 2018, he won the ticket to run for the House of Assembly but stepped aside to allow the incumbent to complete a second term, as directed by party leaders.
In 2019, he was appointed as Special Adviser on Commerce, Industry, and Cooperatives to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. He held this position until 2022, when he resigned to contest as the member representing Ibeju-Lekki Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Legislative work
Mr. Oluwadamilare currently serves as the chairman of the House committee on establishments, training, pension and public service.
