Lagos Assembly impeaches Speaker Obasa over alleged misconduct

The Lagos State House of Assembly has impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa over allegations of financial misappropriation, abuse of office, and poor leadership. Femi Saheed, representing Kosofe Constituency, moved the motion, citing “gross misconduct and highhandedness” as grounds for removal. Deputy Speaker Lasbat Meranda, representing Apapa Constituency 1, has been sworn in as the new Speaker.

FG allocates N146.14bn for Lagos Green Line rail project

The Federal Government has allocated N146.14 billion for the Lagos Green Line Metro Rail Project, a 68km network linking Lekki Free Zone to Marina via Victoria Island and Ajah. Managed by the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), the funding is part of the 2025 budget’s infrastructure plan. The project follows a 2024 agreement between Lagos State, MOFI, and China Harbour Engineering Company, Nairametrics reported.

Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road omitted from 2025 budget – BudgIT

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road was omitted from the 2025 budget proposal, according to BudgIT, a civic-tech organization. The omission raises concerns that funding for the project may require reallocating funds from other critical areas, potentially affecting the budget’s credibility. The Federal Executive Council approved a N1.07 trillion contract for the road’s first phase in February 2024, covering a 47.47 km stretch with a dual carriageway and a train track.

Commissioner urges broadcast workers to resume despite union protests

Lagos State Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Afolabi Ayantayo, has called on workers at Lagos Television, Radio Lagos/Eko FM, and Lagos Traffic Radio to resume work despite union protests that led to the forceful shutdown of the stations. The unions, demanding the inclusion of 245 workers in the state payroll and payment of the minimum wage, disrupted broadcasts, broke doors, and switched off transmitters. Ayantayo described the actions as a “disturbing show of violence” and urged union leaders to stop intimidating employees “A strike should not be turned into an attack on the agencies and their workers,” he said.

Oyo launches air-conditioned buses for Lagos-Ibadan route at N3,200

The Oyo State Government, through Pacesetter Transport Service, has introduced air-conditioned buses for the Lagos-Ibadan route, offering free Wi-Fi, charging ports, and affordable fares of N3,200. Announced via the state’s official X account, the buses depart daily from Eleyele, Ibadan, and Ikeja Bus Terminal, Lagos, at 7 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 4 p.m., providing comfort and convenience for travelers.

Report ranks Lagos among Nigeria’s most dangerous cities

report by SBM Intelligence, a research company has ranked Lagos as the third most dangerous city in Nigeria, recording 32 incidents of urban crime, especially in high-density areas. The Shagamu interchange and Lagos-Ibadan Expressway were flagged as hotspots for criminal activities and road hazards, the Guardian reported. Port Harcourt and Maiduguri ranked first and second, with 85 and 52 incidents, respectively, driven by violent crimes and insurgency.

LAGESC conducts night clearance operation across Lagos

The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Agency (LAGESC) on Monday launched a night clearance operation to maintain cleanliness and tackle environmental issues across various Lagos locations. Starting around 8pm last night, the officials visited Ifako-Ijaiye, Obalende, Falomo, Akin Adeola street, Adetokunbo Ademola street, Eko Hotel roundabout, Ligali Ayorinde, Oke e Close, Bisola Durosinmi-Etti Drive, and other places.

Eva Adelaja Senior Girls’ Grammar School and Government Senior Model College, Ikorodu, both from Education District II, claimed first and third positions, respectively, in the 2024 Insurance quiz competition organized by the Nigeria Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB). The competition, aimed at promoting insurance awareness among students, saw 12 schools from across Lagos participating in the grand finals. Mrs. Anike Adekanye, Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of Education District II, celebrated the winners, urging them to continue excelling and inspiring others.

Rainoil donates educational packs to Ibassa Primary School

Rainoil Ltd. has donated over 400 educational packs to L.A. Primary School in Ibassa, Lagos, in collaboration with the Ibassa Ijegun Egba Youth Association. The Chairman of the Association, Mr. Kareem Idowu, thanked Rainoil for its contribution, saying, “This initiative will undoubtedly make a difference in the lives of our children.”
