$16 Billion Lagos-Abuja project
The Federal Government is set to begin the $16 billion Lagos-Abuja Super Highway and High-Speed Train Project in February 2025, according to the engineers contracted for the project. Spanning 500 kilometers across eight states, the project includes an eight-lane highway, a rail line reaching 250 km/h, 11 stops, smart cities, and housing units. The project aims to cut Lagos-Abuja travel time to under three hours by rail and boost Nigeria’s transport infrastructure.
Lagos to add six new trains to rail system
LAMATA has announced the arrival of six new trains for the Lagos Rail Mass Transit system after the machines passed safety tests in China. The trains are expected expand operations on the Blue and Red Lines, improving passenger capacity and economic impact. The Blue Line, launched in September 2023, currently runs 72 trips daily between Marina and Mile 2.
Lagos works controller debunks bridge rumors
Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, has assuredLagos residents that the Third Mainland Bridge is safe and intact, dismissing social media claims that it is shaking as false and malicious. Speaking during a Thursday inspection, she urged the public to disregard such claims and continue using the bridge.
Sanwo-Olu mourns Ajose
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressed grief over the death of Chief Akinsanya Sunny Ajose, former Lagos Head of Service and Governance Advisory Council (GAC) member. The Governor praised Ajose, who also served as APC Deputy Chairman in Lagos, for his pivotal role in Lagos’ development.
Eko, Ikeja Electric top complaint list
Eko Electric and Ikeja Electric are the electricity companies with the highest complaints from customers, according to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). NERC revealed that Ikeja and Eko electric received 2,401 and 1,073, complaints respectively, the Guardian Newspaper reported.
Two UNILAG graduates celebrate perfect CGPA
Samuel Akinade Badekale and Damilare Haroon Adebakin, both from UNILAG’s Cell Biology and Genetics department, graduated with a perfect 5.00 CGPA for the 2023/2024 session. Celebrating on social media, Badekale tweeted, “This is a testament that dreams come true! Numerous awards & records broken. God did it! Proverbs 22:29.”
Health board launches newsletter
The Lagos State Health Management Agency said its regulatory arm has launched a newsletter to keep stakeholders “informed about regulatory updates, guidelines, and best practices under the Lagos State Health Scheme (LSHS) law.” However, it is unclear how frequent the newsletter will be published.
Court acquits fake Ajao Estate chief
The Lagos State High Court in Tafawa Balewa Square has acquitted the self-styled Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Estate, Frederick Nwajagu, of terrorism charges filed by the Lagos State Government. However, the court found Nwajagu guilty of falsely parading himself as a titled chief in Lagos State. Nwajagu was sentenced to one year but released due to time served.
Soldier arrested in Surulere over illicit drug
The police arrested a Nigerian Army personnel in Surulere for possessing an illicit substance suspected to be ‘Canadian Loud.’ Lance Corporal Sani Aminu will be handed over to the Commissioner of Police Tactical Squad 1 for further investigation, Leadership Newspaper reported.
Lagos hosts inaugural WBC championship
The first Yucateco WBC Amateur Championship will run from February 2–8 at Teslim Balogun Stadium. The tournament will feature boxers from eight African nations. The event doubles as a qualifier for the WBC Amateur Boxing World Cup in Mexico. CEO of Yucateco, Omonlei Imadu, hailed it as a historic event for African boxing.
