What Ojodu residents want from LCDA Chairman Segun Odunmbaku

Segun Odunmbaku.
Segun Odunmbaku.

Residents of Ojodu have appealed to the Executive Chairman of the Local Council Development Area (LCDA) for an improved drainage system, better roads and public infrastructure.

The residents made the requests following celebrations marking Segun Odunmbaku’s two years in office as Executive Chairman of Ojodu LCDA.

In a chat with The Record, a tricycle operator, who pleaded anonymity, described Odunmbaku as a young vibrant leader. He however appealed to the Chairman to “fix the damaged Mokolu road in Ogba”.

Another resident who also preferred to remain anonymous decried the issue of flooding at the Ogba bus stop which has become a source of concern for many commuters, residents and business owners in the axis.

The resident said due to the bad drainage and overflowing gutters, whenever it rains heavily, the road gets flooded from Area G police station to Ogba bus stop.

A food vendor at Ogba bus-stop who also pleaded anonymity urged the council to “build more gutters to help with floods, so that we can be able to run our business effectively.”

According to her, building wider gutters on both sides of the road will curb flooding as the rainwater will be channelled into a proper drainage system.

Other residents who spoke to The Record harped on functional street lights which, according to them, is important for safety and security and would reduce accidents and crimes at night.

They advocated for solar powered street lights to be installed in different streets in Ogba, Oke-Ira, Powerline, Akiode and Ojodu Berger.

Two-year celebrations

To celebrate his second anniversary, the chairman’s Chief Press Secretary, Bello Yakub had in a statement reeled out several initiatives and interventions to further assist residents in the community.

In the statement, Yakubu said “there would be a Subsidy Removal Palliatives Distribution Initiative for residents and also a separate subsidy program for widows and vulnerable people to ensure Food Security.”

The statement stressed that “the youths, business owners and teachers are not left out of this celebration, as there would also be an SME and Business Management Training, Teachers Empowerment Programme and a job fair for the unemployed.”

Yakubu also listed some achievements of the council boss in the past two years since he assumed the leadership of the LCDA.

The CPS said in the health sector, the Chairman commissioned Apata and Agidingbi Primary Healthcare Centres (PHC). “He also commissioned an ultramodern public toilet at Agidingbi Mechanic Village, medical equipment at Ogba Primary Health Centre donated by the Rotary Club of Eko Atlantic, and purchased a new ambulance and enhanced the Gbadamosi and other Primary Health Centres,” the statement added.

“To tackle the issue of insecurity in the LCDA, Odunmbaku presented a patrol vehicle to the Police. During the ceremony to mark his 100 days in office, the Chairman donated educational materials to pupils and presented free JAMB forms to secondary students in the Ojodu area. He has also empowered the youth through different skills acquisition training and programs.

“During the two years in office, the Chairman also fixed some of the failed portions of the roads at several streets like Ayo Alabi Street, Muyibi Street, Secretariat, Modupe and Powerline Road, and Oyatogun Street amongst others.”

Speaking on the subsidy removal palliatives distribution initiative that was organized on August 2 by the local government, the Iyaloja of Akiode, Kafila Ahmed said the chairman has been doing a great job at the LCDA.

The Iyaloja appealed to the chairman to “try more and be giving us food like this.”
