Legislative profile: Aro Moshood Abiodun

Aro Moshood Abiodun, a member of the All Member Progress, represents Ikorodu Constituency 2 in the 10th Lagos State House of Assembly.

He was first elected to the House in 2023.

Mr. Abiodun was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party before joining the APC.

Along with being a legislator, he runs a charity organization.

Early life and education

Mr. Abiodun was born on December 24, 1983, in Ijede, Lagos state. He attended Anwarul-Islam Primary School in Ijede and completed his secondary education at Luwasa High School.

He later pursued higher education at Lagos State University, Ojo, from 2006 to 2011.

He served as the National Publicity Secretary of the Process Wood Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria since 2014.

He has also served as the National Vice Chairman of the Sawmillers Association of Nigeria since 2015, and a member of the National Forest Trust Fund since 2018.

Additionally, he is the Vice Chairman of All Stars Football Club, a position he has held since 2021.

Mr. Abiodun serves as the chairman of the AMA Team Smile Foundation, an organisation dedicated to eliminating poverty and improving lives.

Political career

After facing setbacks in the 2018 and 2019 elections, when he contested  for both councilorship and a seat in the House of Assembly under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun was nearly ready to quit politics.

However, his fortunes changed when he switched to the APC, where he was elected as the House representative for Ikorodu Constituency 2 in 2023.

Legislative work

In September 2024, Mr. Abiodun conducted school visitations across his constituency to identify those in urgent need of renovations, to be carried out by the state government.

With approval from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Mr. Abiodun and the Special Committee on school rehabilitation visited Lajo Community Junior Secondary School, one of the schools identified, to begin preparations.

In July 2023, he enrolled approximately 60 individuals in vocational training programs, leading to their graduation in December 2023.

On August 28, 2023, he brought attention to the eight-year power outage affecting the Igbopa London Community in Ijede during a session of the House. This led to the establishment of an ad hoc committee tasked with investigating and resolving the electricity crisis.

He has also initiated educational projects to support vulnerable children’s pursuit of education and distributed 50 GCE forms through partnerships with Student Union bodies across Ikorodu Constituency II. Additionally, he facilitated the admission of at least 50 students into universities and model colleges in Lagos State.

From August to November 2023, he facilitated the grading and implementation of palliative measures on nine vital roads in the constituency.

In November 2023, he allocated N50 million to support women running small-scale businesses throughout Ikorodu Constituency 2.

Mr. Abiodun also claims that, through his recommendations, at least 15 individuals in his constituency have already secured employment opportunities.
