Landmark project: Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday commissioned the Abiola-Onijemo Link Road and bridge in the Ifako-Ijaiye local government area. The road connects a number of communities, including Abiola, Ajayi, Ogba, Obawole and Iju-Ishaga. Ikeja Record covered the project commissioning.

Rent control: Meanwhile, Governor Sanwo-Olu appealed to landlords and property owners in the area not to increase rents or property prices. “The essence of the infrastructure built is to bring relief to the people and not burden residents,” the Governor said.

Gate politics: Following a surge of unauthorized gate installation, particularly in the Lekki area, the Ministry of Transportation said all gates and barriers installed without approval from the state government are illegal and will be removed.

Ajah politics: For the second time in two weeks, residents from Ajah held a protest at the Governor’s Office in Alausa on Monday over what they described as the planned imposition of a new traditional ruler in the community.

2027 race: The Labour Party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 election, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour said he is “working” on the mistakes he made during the last polls and hinted at a re-run in 2027. “I think the biggest mistake that has happened in Lagos politics is after elections, the opposition goes quiet, which is not, that is not happening this time,” he said.

Labour action: Academic staff at the Lagos State University have declared an indefinite strike following the state government’s failure to implement a salary increment agreed in January 2023.

Physical assault: A two-minute video that went viral on social media showed a lady repeatedly slapping, kicking and hurling abusive words at a road safety official over a seized vehicle in Lagos. The corps marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has ordered an investigation into the case, the Cable newspaper reported.

Building innovation: James Inedu-George, founder of HTL Africa, an architecture firm based in Lagos, is seeking to highlight Bamboo’s status as a “historic pillar of architecture and a necessary medium for future sustainable building”, Semafor reported.

Caught in the act: A man captured on CCTV stealing a Samsung A15 mobile phone at an eatery on Kafi Street, Alausa, has been arrested, the police said.

Crime and punishment: John Osifo, a teacher accused of raping an eight-year-old people in the Jejelaye area of Ajangbadi, was sentenced to life imprisonment by Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos sexual offences and domestic violence court.
