Petrol prices slashed
Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a N65 reduction in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), reducing it from N890 to N825 per litre, effective Thursday, February 27, 2025. According to Daily Trust Newspaper, the slash in price aims to ease the financial burden on Nigerians ahead of the Ramadan season and to align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic recovery efforts.
Sacked clerk sues Meranda
The dismissed clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Olalekan Onafeko, has threatened legal action against speaker Mojisola Meranda for refusal to reinstate him, despite the court’s ruling by the National Industrial Court on February 19,2025, Nigerian Tribune Newspaper reported. The court order followed an ex parte application filed before the court by Onafeko through his lawyer Barrister Yusuf Nurudeen. Meanwhile, Lagos Federal High Court has granted bail to the three Lagos State House of Assembly staff members who were accused of assaulting Department of State Services (DSS) officers.
2025 budget is achievable- Onafowote
The Director-General of the State Procurement Agency, Mr. Fatai Onafowote, has assured Lagosians, businesses, and investors, on Wednesday that the proposed N3 trillion 2025 budget is achievable through efficient procurement and proper implementation, The Nation Newspaper reported. Speaking at the 2025 annual procurement clinic, he described the procurement planning as an anchor on which the implementation of the budget rests. Onafowote also encouraged both internal and external stakeholders of the agency to uphold good governance and trust among local and foreign investors.
Deputy Governor urges civil servants’ excellence
The Deputy Governor, Babafemi Hamzat has urged civil servants to uphold excellence for improved service delivery, Nigerian Tribune Newspaper reported. Speaking at the event themed “The Role of Employees in the Turnaround Process of 21st Century Public Services,” held at Novatel Hotel, Lekki, he emphasized that the state and nation will thrive if every civil servant diligently fulfills their responsibilities.
Lagos urges residents to embrace eco-friendly alternatives
The state government has urged residents to embrace the use of eco-friendly and biodegradable materials as a substitute for single use plastics. Special Adviser on Environment, Engr. Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu, stated in a public awareness program on the ban of Styrofoam and other single-use plastics, that the initiative is an important step in protecting the environment and ensuring public health.
Clamp down on illegal dredgers in Ikorodu
The State Government has launched a clamp down operation on illegal dredging activities in Ikorodu, shutting down multiple sites and arresting operators to kick against environmental degradation. According to PM Newspaper, over 200 illegal dredgers were ordered to stop work with authorities warning of severe consequences for defaulters. Leading the operation, Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Ekundayo Alebiosu, shut down all illegal operations in the area, highlighting that illegal dredging contributes to erosion, flooding, and infrastructure damage.
LSETF collaborates with KTI to create jobs and entrepreneurship
The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with King’s Trust International (KTI), has launched a new training program under the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) to tackle unemployment and empower residents. Speaking at the launch of the program, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the initiative will focus on job creation, skill development and entrepreneurship. He also reassured the state’s commitment to promoting employment opportunities and building a prosperous future for all Lagosians. “We are committed to building a prosperous future for every Lagosian through employment opportunities and skills training,” he said.
Civil servants, private sector to benefit from new exchange programme
The state government has launched an exchange programme for civil servants and the private sector to promote work ethics, operational models, and leadership strategies, The Nation Newspaper reported. Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Mr Afolabi Ayantayo, at the launching of the programme described the program as a fulfilment of a bold and progressive initiative conceptualised by the state government. “We are counting on you to return as beneficiaries and as change leaders who will make a positive impact in the service,” Ayantayo said to the participants.
LASEPA shuts businesses over noise pollution
The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, (LASEPA) has shut several businesses such as lounges, bars, hotels, religious centers as well as company warehouses across the state over persistent noise pollution and other infractions that pose threats to public health. According to an announcement by the agency on X, the General Manager, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi reassured the agency’s commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all Lagosians.
Governor’s Monitoring Team nabs fake officers
The Governor Monitoring Team (GMT) on Wednesday apprehended four fake revenue officers parading themselves as enforcement personnel from the Ministry of Transportation (MOT). The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation Mr. Olawale Musa, urged the public to be watchful and report suspicious activities to the ministry.
