Obasa absent as lawmakers pledge loyalty to Tinubu

Erstwhile speaker, Mudashiru Obasa was absent as members of the Lagos State House of Assembly expressed their loyalty to President Bola Tinubu during a plenary meeting on Thursday, Punch Newspaper reported. “I know that he will take us to the Promised Land,” new speaker, Mojisola Meranda, said. “When he started, it was a bit rough but with the things we are seeing now, it shows that tomorrow is definitely going to be better.”

Commissioner announces fines for violating traffic light rules

The Commissioner of Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, on Thursday said the state will begin to enforce traffic light and speed violation rules, Vanguard Newspaper reported. The commissioner said red light offenders will pay a N20,000 fine while driving beyond the speed limit will attract a N50,000 fine. He added that traffic will be monitored using Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) cameras deployed on four key routes.

Banana Island landlord sues state government

A landlord in Banana Island, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma-Odii, has sued the state government for approving a permit for a six-storey building on Plot B-7, Banana Island, the Nation Newspaper reported. According to the landlord, the approval ran contrary to the original building model specification of the area.

FRSC officer shot at during enforcement exercise

A man wearing a police uniform shot and wounded a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer in Lagos on Thursday, Channels Television reported. The incident occurred during an FRSC enforcement exercise to identify fake number plates. Channels Television said it was unclear if the shooter is an official of the Nigeria Police Force.

Nine Chinese nationals arraigned for fraud in Ikoyi

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday arraigned nine Chinese nationals at a Federal High Court in Ikoyi, PM News reported. The foreigners are suspected to be members of a crypto-currency investment and romance fraud syndicate. On December 10, the EFCC had arrested 792 syndicate members in Lagos.

Woman missing after job interview in Lekki

A 29-year-old, Nkiru Osakweogo, has gone missing after attending a job interview in Lekki, the Guardian Newspaper reported. According to her sister, she left home on January 25 for the interview and has not returned.

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority visited Herbert Macaulay Senior Girls High School in Sabo, Yaba and Herbert Macaulay Junior School in Ebute Metta to educate students on traffic safety.

Man arrested for raping 16-year-old boy

The police have arrested a 46-year-old man for raping a 16-year-old boy, Punch Newspaper reported. The victim said the criminal act happened twice at the man’s house in Egbeda. A video of the man confessing to the crime went viral on Twitter.
