Obasa’s removal trigger rift within the APC

The removal of Mudasiru Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly has reportedly triggered divisions within Tinubu’s political structure and the All Progressive Congress (APC), Punch Newspaper reported. It was initially believed that Tinubu approved Obasa’s removal as speaker, but sources close to the President say he was not consulted before the lawmakers took the decision, the newspaper added.

Redline to expand operations

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday announced that the Red-Line rail service will expand its capacity, offering five mornings and four evening trips daily from Monday. Sanwo-Olu made this announcement in a post on his X account. He said the total journey from Agbado to Oyingbo will be 50 minutes, reducing waiting time to two minutes at each station. “The Red Line isn’t just a train service—it’s a game-changer for commuting in Lagos,” the Governor said.

More than 70% of Lagos residents live as tenants – REDAN President

The National President of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria, Akintoye Adeoye, said more than 70 percent of Lagos residents are tenants. He made the comment during a press briefing where he highlighted the challenges of Nigeria’s affordable mortgages, Punch Newspaper reported. “The primary challenge to homeownership in Nigeria is affordable mortgages,” Adeoye said.

LASURA opens new office in Lekki

The Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA) has opened a new office, at 44, Nnamdi Azikwe Street, Lagos Island. Speaking at the commissioning of the new office, Special Adviser to the Governor on E-GIS and Urban Development, Dr. Olajide Abiodun Babatunde said the annex office would foster closer cooperation with property developers in Lagos Island and surrounding areas.

Boxing gymnasium commissioned

The Babajide Sanwo-Olu Boxing Gymnasium at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere has been commissioned. The Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, said the gymanasium will help young people in the area channel their energy into sports.

Lagos capable of financing budget deficit – Commissioners

The state government has said it has the capacity to make more money to take care of its budget deficit, Blueprint Newspaper reported. With a total revenue estimate of N2.968 trillion, the 2025 budget has a deficit-funding requirement of N398.662 billion. Speaking at a press conference held at the Bagauda Khalto Press Centre in Alausa, the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr Ope George and the Commissioner for Finance, Abayomi Oluyomi, said the state’s debt financing was sustainable.

Activist raises alarm over police extortion on major roads

Human right activist, Segun O’law has raised concerns over the unlawful police extortion of motorists, especially along Lagos-Abeokuta expressway. In a viral video posted on X, he lamented the lack of proper road signs which the police use as an avenue to extort unsuspecting drivers.

Police apprehends murder suspect

The police have arrested a murder suspect, Okeke Johnchris, for killing William Wisdom after a heated argument last week. The spokesman of the Nigeria Police Force, Muyiwa Adejobi, accused Okeke of running William over with his Lexus saloon car. William suffered severe injuries as a result of the incident and later died at Gbagada General Hospital, the cop said.

Church organises parade to redefine Valentine’s Day

In a bid to redefine the Valentines Day narrative, The Assemblies of God Church in Surulere organized a road walk in Surulere to express concern over the increasing rate of sexual immorality in society, the News Agency of Nigeria reported.
