Aliko Dangote Foundation partners with State Government to  launch food intervention programme 

To address hunger and promote food security across Lagos and Nigeria, the Lagos State Government, in partnership with the Aliko Dangote Foundation, launched the National Food Intervention Programme. This initiative will distribute 80,000 (10kg) bags of rice to vulnerable residents in every local government area of Lagos State. Mariya Aliko Dangote, Trustee of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to fighting hunger, revealing plans to distribute one million bags of rice nationwide, covering all 774 local government areas. 

Residents face acute water shortage as rising temperatures dry up boreholes and wells

Many residents are facing an acute shortage of water as rising temperatures have caused boreholes and wells to dry up in several communities. Areas such as Ajegunle, Ijegun, Igando, Obadore, Akesan, and Okerugbe are left without reliable water sources, forcing people to resort to unconventional sources, purchase sachet water, or dig wells deeper in hopes of accessing water. The situation is further worsened by persistent electricity shortages, as some compounds lack power to pump water from boreholes, The Guardian reported.

Tinubu awards $700 million port renovation contract to Gilbert Chagoury

President Bola Tinubu has awarded a $700 million contract to Gilbert Chagoury, the owner of Eko Hotel and a key financier of the Eko Atlantic project, through his company ITB Construction Nigeria Limited for the renovation of Nigeria’s major ports, Tin Can and Apapa, the People Gazette reported. 

Sanwo-Olu appoints Otunba Oladipupo Oluwaloni as acting chairman of Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has appointed Otunba Oladipupo Oluwaloni as the Acting Chairman of Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area (LCDA). This follows the prolonged absence of the substantive chairman, Chief Mrs. Bolatito Shobowale, due to health reasons.

House of Representatives orders urgent audit and repairs for Otedola bridge

The House of Representatives on Tuesday directed the Federal Ministry of Works to urgently conduct a comprehensive technical audit of the Otedola Bridge in Lagos within 30 days, following frequent accidents on the bridge. The House also approved emergency funds for repairs to damaged sections of the bridge within 90 days, pending a full redesign. Punch newspaper reported.

Sanwo-Olu to inaugurate 16 new classroom blocks across the state

Sanwo-Olu is set to inaugurate 16 new classroom blocks across the state, starting with Keme Balogun School in Ikorodu and Ajegunle Junior School in Kosofe. Chairman of the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS), Hakeem Smith announced the initiative on Tuesday. SCRPS, re-established in 2019, has rehabilitated 386 classroom blocks and built new schools like Elemaro Community Junior School in Eti Osa. The projects include improvements in school infrastructure, ergonomic furniture, and enhanced classroom designs.

PDP deputy chairman criticizes Jandor’s defection to APC

Reacting to Jandor’s defection to the APC, Lagos PDP Deputy Chairman Tai Benedict criticized Jandor, claiming he was planted by the APC to destabilize the party. Benedict said Jandor’s actions, including undermining party leadership and securing the governorship ticket from behind, justified his departure. While Benedict welcomed Jandor’s exit, APC spokesperson Seye Oladejo welcomed him back, dismissing PDP’s allegations as an excuse for their internal crisis. Oladejo also hinted at more defections to the APC ahead of the next election, the Punch Newspaper reported.

Governor commissions disposable syringe factory 

Sanwo-Olu commissioned Transgreen Nigeria Limited’s ultra-modern O-Care Disposable Syringe factory in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos, on Tuesday. The factory, the first of its kind in Lagos State, is designed to produce high-quality, sterile syringes that meet international standards. Represented by Deputy Governor, Mr. Femi Hamzat, Sanwo-Olu highlighted that the facility aligns with the state’s vision of becoming a hub for industrial innovation and excellence, This Day Live Newspaper reported.

LASIMRA ,NCC to strengthen collaboration,improve telecom infrastructure 

The Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance & Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA) recently paid a working visit to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Headquarters in Abuja to strengthen collaboration between the two organizations and enhance the telecommunications sector in Lagos State. Led by LASIMRA’s CEO, Prince Oyekanmi Elegushi, the delegation met with NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, and the commission’s management team. Discussions focused on key issues, including the security and protection of telecom infrastructure, with a particular emphasis on the Tower Enumeration Project, a comprehensive audit aimed at identifying distressed communication infrastructure across Lagos, the Tribune Online Newspaper reported. 

NAICOM projects N2.5 trillion premium generation in 2025

The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) projects the sector’s premium generation will reach N2.5 trillion in 2025. Commissioner of Insurance, Olusegun Omosehin shared this at the 2025 Insurance Stakeholders’ Forum. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) aims for N5 trillion in Gross Written Premium (GWP). NIA Chairman, Kunle Ahmed emphasized the need for faster progress, noting it took 10 years to hit N1 trillion and urging operators to innovate to reach the N3 trillion to N5 trillion target, the Punch Newspaper reported.
