Jandor returns to APC, Lagos Chapter welcomes him

The Lagos APC on Monday welcomed its former member and 2023 PDP governorship candidate, Abdul-Azeez Adediran (Jandor), back to the party. Adediran, who left APC for PDP in 2021, resigned from the opposition party on March 3, citing lack of discipline and betrayal, the Vanguard Newspaper reported. “He is welcome home. We are happy he now sees Lagos is better in the hands of the progressives,” APC spokesman Seye Oladejo said. He added that the party expects more defections soon.

LUTH discharges four King’s College students after diphtheria treatment

The Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) has discharged four King’s College students who were treated for diphtheria. Chief Medical Director Prof. Wasiu Adeyemo confirmed they were released on March 14 after being certified diphtheria-free, Sahara Reporters reported. The outbreak, which earlier led to the death of a 12-year-old student and the hospitalisation of 14 others, prompted the Lagos State government to activate an Emergency Response Committee and announce a mass vaccination campaign. 

Sanwo-Olu wins Silverbird Governor of the Year Award

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been named the Silverbird Governor of the Year, recognizing his leadership and contributions to the state’s development. Receiving the award at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Sanwo-Olu dedicated the award to the people of Lagos, promising to continue delivering good governance and democratic dividends. 

Court rejects bid to change Lagos Assembly counsel, reserves judgment on Obasa’s suit

A Lagos court has upheld Femi Falana (SAN) as the Lagos Assembly’s counsel in Speaker Mudashiru Obasa’s suit challenging his impeachment. Justice Yetunde Pinheiro reserved judgment, with Falana arguing the case is now academic since Obasa was re-elected on March 3. Defense lawyers insisted the removal was a legislative matter, while Obasa’s counsel maintained it was unlawful, Leadership Newspaper reported.

Ebonyi Governor evacuates over 800 indigenes stranded in Lagos

Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has evacuated over 800 indigenes stranded in Lagos following the demolition of parts of Ilaje by the state government. Commissioner for Special Duties, Barr. Valentine Okike, said many, including women and children, were sleeping under bridges before being rescued, the Tribune Newspaper reported. “The governor ordered their return and will not let them suffer,” Okike said. He further noted that while people from other states were also affected, only Ebonyi took swift action to bring its people home.

Survey estimates Lagos men spent N661 Billion on transactional sex in 2024

A research report conducted by Mo Africa Co titled “The Lagos Sex Economy in 2024” estimates that Lagos men spent N661 billion on transactional sex in 2024—N329 billion on payments to sex workers and N332 billion on related expenses. With an average rate of N36,750, about 1.86 million men engaged in paid sex. Eti-Osa recorded the highest prices, reaching N100,000. Spending covered beauty, family support, business investments, entertainment, and luxury gifts.

Lagos to host Cricket U-19 T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier

Lagos will host the ICC U-19 Men’s T20 World Cup Africa qualifier from March 26 to April 6, with six teams—Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, Tanzania, and Sierra Leone, all competing for a spot at the 2026 World Cup. The qualifier will kick off on March 28 with two opening encounters: Nigeria vs. Namibia at the Tafawa Balewa (TBS) Oval and Kenya vs. Sierra Leone at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Oval, Pulse Sport reported. “Nigeria is thrilled to welcome these talented young cricketers and their supporters to Lagos,” Nigeria Cricket Federation President Uyi Akpata said.

Diaspora group threatens to petition FBI over Lagos-Calabar Highway demolition

Nigerians in the U.S., under the Nigerian Foreign Investors group, have threatened to petition the FBI and Homeland Security over the demolition of properties for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. During a protest in Chicago, they accused the Ministry of Works, led by David Umahi, of diverting the road project in Okun Ajah, leading to the destruction of properties worth millions. Protesters, including Stella Okengwu of WinHomes Global, claimed that houses valued at over N200m were compensated with as little as N26m, vowing to seek international attention and justice for affected investors, the Punch Newspaper reported.

LASCODA partners with bakers to revive Eko Coconut Bread

The Lagos State Coconut Development Authority (LASCODA) has initiated efforts to reintroduce Eko Coconut Bread, a beloved local delicacy. Coordinating Director Ms. Olajumoke Ola met with pastry industry stakeholders at LASCODA headquarters to discuss strategies for reviving the bread, emphasizing its unique nutritional value. Acknowledging bakers’ challenges, she assured them of government support to create a conducive business environment. Stakeholders welcomed the initiative, describing it as beneficial for consumers, bakers, and the State Government.

LAWMA moves to prosecute woman for illegal waste dumping in Alimosho

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has taken legal action against a woman, identified as Rose, for allegedly dumping waste illegally at Alimosho Bus Stop, New Ipaja Road. According to Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Sanwo-Olu, the incident occurred at 6:59 am on March 13, 2025, with officials gathering photographic and video evidence. LAWMA confirmed that the suspect will be prosecuted under the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017, emphasizing its commitment to curbing indiscriminate waste disposal.
