AfDB signals interest in rail partnership

The African Development Bank said it is interested in working with the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority to develop another rail line. The banks Vice President of Private Sector Infrastrcure and Industrialisation, Mr. Solomon Quaynor gave the assurance while on a visit to LAMATA.

Mile 2, Marina hubs set for completion by 2026

The Mile 2 and Marina transport interchange hubs will be completed by 2026. This timeline was affirmed during a recent inspection led by Abimbola Akinajo, Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA). The construction, which began in July, aims to create a seamless transport network connecting road, rail, water, and non-motorized transport.

Sanwo-Olu unveils 6km road in Ikeja

Governor Sanwo-Olu on Thursday unveiled a 6km road network in Ikeja GRA, which includes key roads such as Oba Dosumu Street, Oduduwa Way, Oduduwa Crescent, Sobo Arobiodu, and Sasegbon Streets. These roads were constructed to enhance transportation and improve drainage systems in the area. The governor also announced plans to open an additional 4.7km of arterial roads on Friday in the Akoka, Bariga, and Gbagada areas of Lagos.

Lagos partners with Edo on food security, livestock projects

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Edo State is set to collaborate with the Lagos Commodities and Futures Exchange on food security and livestock projects. Nkechi Obi, Head of Operations at the Exchange, recently visited the Ministry to request a 1000-hectare land allocation for feed, fodder, and livestock initiatives.

Lagos hotels generate N54bn in December

Lagos hotels generated ₦54 billion in December, according to research by advisory firm MO Africa Company Limited. The revenue was driven by over 15,000 hotel reservations between November 19 and December 26. During the same period, Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) handled approximately 550,000 inbound passengers, Mo Africa said. Kayode Omosebi of Mo Africa said ‘Detty December’ could bring in up to $2 billion in foreign exchange by 2026, provided the government addresses infrastructure, security, and supply chain challenges.

Commissioner denies assault allegations

The Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, has refuted assault claims in a now-viral video showing her reprimanding a man at the J. Randle Centre. According to Benson-Awoyinka, the incident involved the center’s director, who was operating an unauthorized canteen.

LAWMA targets illegal waste disposal in Egbeda

LAWMA has conducted a targeted operation in Egbeda to tackle illegal waste disposal. The operation aimed to curb the improper dumping of waste on the roads and promote environmental cleanliness. Several individuals were apprehended for further investigation into their involvement in waste disposal violations.

Access bank demands repayment of stolen N1.25m

A Lagos resident has been asked to repay a N1.25 million loan fraudulently taken by thieves using her phone number from Access Bank. After her phone was stolen, she discovered that her account had been used to secure the loan. Despite reporting the issue to the bank, her complaint was dismissed. She is now facing demands to repay the loan or risk being blacklisted, FIJ reported.

Korope, danfo buses set for rebrand

The state government said it is planning to integrate mini and midi buses, popularly known as Korope and Danfo into its Bus Reform Initiative, the News Agency of Nigeria reported. The scheme is expected to be first rolled out on buses plying the Lekki-Ajah route. “Once verified, the buses will be branded in the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority colours and equipped with validators,” the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, Mr Sola Giwa, said.

Sanwo-Olu signs 3.37 trillion budget

Meanwhile, Governor Sanwo-Olu has signed the 2025 budget of ₦3,366,815,224,144 (₦3.37 trillion) into law, Vanguard Newspaper reported. This comes after the assembly increased the initially proposed budget of ₦3.005 trillion. The governor detailed that the total revenue for the budget is ₦2,597,034,000,000, which includes ₦1,970,897,000,000 in Internally Generated Revenue and ₦626,137,000,000 in Federal Transfers. The budget also features a deficit financing of ₦408,902,000,000.
