LIRS sets January 31 as tax deadline

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has issued a reminder for all employers in Lagos state to submit their annual tax returns for 2024 financial year on or before January 31, 2025. The Executive Chairman of LIRS, Dr. Ayodele Subair, highlighted that meeting the deadline is a legal obligation, and warned that failure to meet the deadline will result in statutory sanction.

LASEMA records 1,675 road, fire and other incidents throughout 2024

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said it recorded a total of 1,675 road, fire and other incidents between January 1 and December 31, 2024. LASEMA spokesperson, Okunbor Nosa, said 167 of the incidents were recorded in December.

Police prosecute 2,176 cases in four months

Meanwhile, the Lagos State command said it prosecuted 2,176 cases between September 2024 and January 2025. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Ishola Olanrewaju, disclosed this during a press briefing held at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja. He also stated that the command lost three personnel in the line of duty. “We want the public to know that it is not all bed of roses for us,” he said.

NDLEA nabs shrine chief

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested one Bariu Aliyu, popularly known as “Malo,” who is a traditional chief priest of the Igunuko Shrine, in the Alpha Beach area of Ajah, Lekki, after a three month manhunt. According to Punch Newspaper, Bariu has been on the run after 2,760 kilograms of skunk were recovered from his shrine on October 25, 2024.

US returnee arrested over murder of Uber driver

The State Command has apprehended US returnee, David Segun and his friends, for allegedly killing an Uber driver. According to News Central, the suspects ordered a ride from the app, and upon reaching a secluded area, they robbed and stabbed the driver in the neck multiple times. The victim’s body has been deposited at the Mainland Hospital morgue in Yaba.

Two factory workers die in diesel tank accident

Two factory workers died on Saturday after falling into a diesel reservoir in Oregun. Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Man­agement Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the tragic news. Independent Newspaper reported that the second adult, in an attempt to save the first, fell into the reservoir.

Two killed in Lagos-Badagry highway accident

At least two persons were killed and one other injured in an autocrash accident at Age-Mowo axis of the Lagos-Badagry expressway. The unit commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), William Manga told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the accident was a head-on collision involving a Toyota Matrix car and a tricycle.

Lagos directs unapproved schools to register

The Lagos State Government has ordered all unapproved and unregistered schools operating within the state to register immediately with the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) or face sanctions, Punch Newspaper reported.

Three arrested over death of Facebook lover

Three men have been arrested by the police over the death of their Facebook lover in Surulere. The Daily Trust Newspaper reported that the suspects extorted N300,000 from the victim.

Lady assaulted in boutique over suspected theft

In a recent viral video on social media, a yet-to-be-identified lady was seen assaulted by men over suspected theft in a boutique, located opposite Tantalizers, Lagos Island. The Punch Newspaper reported that the lady had allegedly stolen from her boss, who owns the boutique. The video has sparked an outrage online and calls for authorities to deliver justice.
