Oando to deploy 5,000 electric buses for public transportation
Oando Plc’s Group CEO, Wale Tinubu, has announced a partnership with the Lagos State Government to deploy 5,000 electric buses for public transportation. Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Tinubu said the initiative aligns with Oando’s commitment to cleaner energy solutions and a ‘just’ energy transition, Nairametrics reported. “Transport accounts for 10% of global emissions, and transitioning buses from diesel to electric can cut emissions by 5% almost immediately,” he said.
Obasa risks suspension for defying impeachment, Mogaji warns
Former chairman of the Lagos Assembly Commission, Wale Mogaji has warned impeached former speaker Mudashiru Obasa against parading himself as speaker. According to The Punch, Mogaji criticized Obasa’s claim that his impeachment lacked due process, accusing him of ignoring proper procedures in the past. “Challenging the Assembly’s authority could get you suspended or banned,” Mogaji said. Meanwhile, Mojisola Meranda has officially assumed office as the new speaker.
Lagos signs MoU with FG to launch Green Line project
The Lagos State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) to begin the Green Line project, a 68-kilometer rail line connecting Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone. Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, announced the deal at a Citizen/Media Stakeholders forum, emphasizing that the Green Line will traverse one of Africa’s fastest-growing industrial corridors. He also noted the completion of 36 road projects in 2024 and ongoing efforts on the Red and Blue Line rail projects, with the Green Line expected to further enhance the city’s transportation network.
Sanwo-Olu to commission major roads in Amuwo-Odofin
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will commission key road projects in Amuwo-Odofin on January 28, 2025, including Old Ojo (Phase 1), Irede, Navy Town, and Mumuni Adio Roads. Announced by Commissioner Gbenga Omotoso, the 10.1 km upgrades aim to enhance connectivity to the Lagos Blue Line Rail and Inland Waterways terminal.
APC faction faults Meranda’s Speakership
Some members of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos have faulted the shift of the House Speakership to Lagos Central rather than Lagos West. “We have no issue with Obasa’s removal,” a spokesperson for the aggrieved parties said. “Our concern is that the lawmakers, in electing Meranda as the new Speaker, were not well guided.”
Lagos seals Gorodom and Alagbafo markets
The Lagos State Government has sealed off Gorodom and Alagbafo markets on Lagos Island due to environmental violations. The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the closure via X on Monday, showing photos and videos of the markets being sealed with traders packing their goods. This follows similar actions against other markets like Oyingbo, Ladipo, and Alaba Rago for issues such as improper waste disposal and illegal burning of refuse.
Sanwo-Olu pledges stronger economic and cultural ties with India
Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria-India relations, highlighting India’s significant economic contributions. Represented by Secretary to the State Government Barrister Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin at India’s Republic Day celebration, Sanwo-Olu praised Indian businesses for their impact on manufacturing, retail, and construction. “We will continue to promote an enabling environment for investment and economic development,” he said.
Experts advocate for waste bins in public transport

Highlighting the success of a similar initiative in Kano while speaking exclusively with PUNCH Healthwise, they argue that placing waste bins in buses, tricycles, and strategic locations could curb indiscriminate dumping and educate the public on proper disposal practices. These experts warn that without action, the state could face severe environmental and health challenges.

Speed Darlington survives gunshot attack days after prison release
Nigerian singer Speed Darlington narrowly escaped a gunshot attack shortly after his release from prison. In a social media post, he revealed that unidentified assailants fired at his car, leaving it covered in bullet holes. “I heard gunshots but didn’t realize it was aimed at us until my team told me,” he said. The musician accused a person named “Long Face” of orchestrating the attack, News Central reported.
