Lagos targets universal water access by 2027

The state government said it plans to provide access to safe and clean water to all Lagos residents by 2027. Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made the comment while on a tour of the Adiyan Water Works I & II. “This water project is pivotal,” he said. “Governor Sanwo-Olu is determined to solve our water challenges, and we are making significant progress.”

AI University to Launch in Epe

An AI-focused institution, Wini University, is set to open in Epe, TechPoint reported. The university will reportedly offer training in AI, blockchain, and quantum computing, aiming to equip youth with in-demand skills, the report added.

Lagos assembly calls for action on scavengers and manhole theft

The Lagos State House of Assembly has urgedGovernor Sanwo-Olu to address the growing issue of scavengers and manhole theft. During a plenary session, lawmakers highlighted the damage caused to public infrastructure, which affects road safety and flooding control. They called for stricter enforcement of laws, a ban on scavenging, and public awareness campaigns.

JAMB appeals for more CBT centres in Lagos

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s support to establish more Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres in Lagos, citing the state’s high number of candidates and limited facilities. Oloyede asked for land in areas like Ikorodu and Ojo to build new centres, emphasizing the need to improve infrastructure.

LASTMA arrests one-chance driver in Surulere

A commercial bus driver, Toyib Ogunjobi, was arrestedby LASTMA for running a ‘one-chance’ scam after robbing and ejecting a passenger Miss Bibian Emelifonwu. Ogunjobi confessed to leading a syndicate that targeted passengers with low fares and stole their valuables. Seven stolen phones were recovered, and Ogunjobi is set to face further legal action.

Lagos task force clears illegal parking at berger bridge

The Lagos State Taskforce, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation, cleared illegally parked commercial vehicles at Berger bridge on Tuesday following multiple warnings to bus drivers causing traffic congestion. Commissioner of Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stressed that violators would face penalties under the 2018 State Traffic Law to ensure order on Lagos roads.

LASEPA seals Ariba Bistro over noise complaints

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) sealed Ariba Bistro at Martinos Hotel in Ikeja on Tuesday following repeated noise complaints from residents. LASEPA’s General Manager, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, emphasized the agency’s commitment to enforcing noise regulations and cautioned other establishments to comply or face similar actions.

EFCC arraigns five for tampering with forfeited property

The EFCC arraigned five persons at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi for allegedly tampering with a forfeited property in Amuwo Odofin. The property, under interim forfeiture since 2017, was reportedly re-entered by the defendants in July 2024. They pleaded not guilty to the charge and, after discussing bail applications, the court adjourned the case to February 14, 2025, for further proceedings.
