Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has repeatedly denied protesters were killed at Lekki toll gate despite overwhelming evidence.

Lagos assembly rejects Sanwo-Olu’s men

Rejection: The Lagos State House of Assembly on Wednesday rejected 17 of the 39 commissioner-nominees forwarded to it by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The rejection surprised many but signs of a fractious relationship between the state executive and legislature have been lingering for months. In April, the House had chastised Sanwo-Olu for not seeking its consent before issuing letters of appointment to certain state officials.

After they received Sanwo-Olu’s list of commissioner-nominees, the lawmakers also criticised it as not being representative of the APC’s political interests and the state’s religious diversity.

Pointing fingers: A Christian group accused the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) of being behind the rejection of the 17 commissioner-nominees, Vanguard reported.

Related: Sanwo-Olu ordered political appointees to only recruit personal assistants from the state’s civil service.

Free rides in Ojodu

Kicking off: The bus scheme announced by the Ojodu Local Council Development Area has gone live. Riders who spoke to The Record expressed enthusiasm about the initiative.

Schedule: The free buses are available at various take-off routes in all the six wards of Ojodu in the morning from 6am to 9am, and by 4pm to 7pm, according to a council press release.

Quotable: “Some people are ashamed to enter the buses,” one motorcycle rider told The Record. He said some residents don’t want to be regarded as being too poor to afford a motorcycle fare.

Around Ikeja and beyond

Cause for concern: The House of Assembly called on Sanwo-Olu to convene a security council meeting over the rising spate of killings by men identified in security uniforms. “At least three people have been declared dead, said to be killed by men in either Police or Army uniforms and we cannot conclude if they are security men or otherwise,” Speaker Mudashiru Obasa said.

Security watch: Rogues and mentally-ill persons have taken over the popular Ikeja under-bridge, sparking fear of safety among residents, Punch reported.

Free food: A large crowd showed up at the Agunbiade Primary School in Shomolu to receive subsidy palliatives facilitated by Somolu local government chairman, AbdulHamed Salawu, Punch reported.

Dismal development: Weeds and faeces have taken over the 400-seater Lagos state theatre built by the Akinwunmi Ambode administration and located in Oregun, Punch reported.

Isese festival: An Ifa priest, speaking to The Record, explained the significance of the celebration and why African traditional religion should not be cast as evil.
