Tinubu endorses Lagos Assembly’s decision to retain Meranda
President Bola Tinubu has reportedly accepted the decision of the Lagos State House of Assembly to impeach former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and elect Mojisola Meranda as his successor. This follows a series of meetings and lobbying by critical stakeholders, including the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), which had sent a delegation to brief Tinubu on the matter. Despite some disagreements, sources say the issue was resolved after a phone conversation between the president and GAC leadership, allowing the status quo to remain, Vanguard reported. The House will resume sittings on Thursday, February 6, 2025, to address important state matters, following the resolution of the crisis.
Lagos launches Ounje Eko Farmers’ Subsidy Programme
The Lagos State Government has introduced the Ounje Eko Farmers’ Subsidy Programme, a N500 million initiative to ease financial pressure on farmers. Offering a 25% subsidy on poultry and fish feed, the program aims to boost agricultural productivity and stabilize food prices, Small Business Insights reported. “This initiative reaffirms our dedication to food security,” said the Commissioner for Agriculture, Abisola Olusanya. The one-month pilot phase started on February 5, with weekly subsidies to support farmers amid rising costs.
Sanwo-Olu pledges 70 million gallons of water daily
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has revealed that the second phase of the Adiyan Water Works will supply residents with 70 million gallons of water daily. Sanwo-Olu revealed this on his Twitter handle after a work visit to the construction site. “While there is still work to be done, I am confident that we will continue to build the necessary capacity to meet the water needs of our city,” he said.
Lagos, Netherlands launch solar-powered cooling storage
The Netherlands government has partnered with the Lagos state government to launch the Polar Store, a solar-powered cooling storage infrastructure. This is in a bid to improve the storage of perishable goods and pharmaceutical products in the state and across the country, Business Day Newspaper reported.
Countdown begins for 10th Lagos City Marathon
With the 10th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon set for February 15, anticipation is high. Since its launch, the race has drawn 600,000 athletes from 14 countries, cementing Lagos as a global marathon hub. The pre-race expo runs from February 3-13, featuring fitness activities and brand activations, while live performances at the finish line promise a thrilling experience, Blueprint reported.
Psychiatric and Rehabilitation Center under construction
Sanwo-Olu has begun construction of a Psychiatric and rehabilitation center in Ketu Ejirin, Epe local government area. The Senior special assistant on new media, Jubril Gawat revealed this on his X account. “It is a 1,000-bed facility sitting on about 25-hectare land, will serve as a rehabilitation center where people with mental health illness will be taken care of,” he said in the post.
Orilowo Perishable Market secures registration
After years of struggle, traders at Orilowo Perishable Foods Market in Agboyi-Ketu have finally received official approval to operate. According to SaharaReporters, the Centre for Human and Socio-Economic Rights (CHSR) led advocacy efforts, including a peaceful protest at the Lagos State House of Assembly, demanding intervention. “After all these struggles, smiles were put on the faces of the traders when the House Committee on Judiciary, Public Petition, and INEC intervened and resolved the issue,” said CHSR President Comrade Alex Omotehinse. The Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area issued a provisional approval letter on January 15, 2025, allowing the traders to continue their business legally.
Bolt drivers to benefit from fare adjustment
The ride-hailing company, Bolt has revealed its plans to optimize driver’s earnings and enhance overall driver’s satisfaction by increasing earnings, and also dismissing claims that it implemented a 50% slash on all rides across the state. General Manager of Bolt Nigeria, Osi Oguah, explained the reason behind the fare adjustment. “What we did was fare adjustments in Lagos, which are designed to optimise driver earnings in the long run,” Oguah said.

Police to fish out fake officers
The Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Ishola Olanrewaju Olawale has ordered a headcount of all officers within a week, to fish out ghost workers and fake police officers. The directive was issued by the Commissioner and sent out to all units, divisions, tactical teams and squads, Saharareporters reported.
Carter bridge barrier damaged twice in 24 hrs
A traffic barrier on Carter Bridge, leading to Ijora Olopa, was knocked down twice within 24 hours, causing traffic disruptions in the area. In a post on X, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reported that the barrier had been knocked down twice.
