Former Lagos state governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been accused of owning a Guinean passport.

Investigative journalist David Hundeyin uploaded a copy of a passport bearing Mr Tinubu’s name and photograph on Saturday evening, sparking heated discussions on social media.

On Sunday, Minister of Works and Housing and Tinubu ally, Babatunde Fashola, said he was not aware Mr Tinubu held a Guinean passport but added that dual citizenship is allowed under the Nigerian constitution.

Water supply disruption hits Ogudu after trailer accident

Some residents of Ogudu will experience water supply disruption, Muminu Badmus, managing director of Lagos Water Corporation, has announced

According to Muminu, this is due to a trailer accident at Ogudu underbridge. No lives were lost but valuable infrastructure was affected.

“Our experienced and dedicated staff have been alerted and sent to the area for timely arrest of the burst and to restore Water supply,” Muminu said.

Lagos Govt launches app to collect feedback from residents

The Lagos state government has launched a web-based app that enables residents to send feedback to the authorities.

“The Citizens Gate 2.0 Platform is a multichannel platform tailored to offer social benefits,” a government statement said.

The Special Adviser, Office of Civic Engagement, Princess Aderemi Adebowale said the platform is a crucial step towards promoting transparency, accountability and Citizens’ Engagement in Government.

NDLEA intercepts illicit drugs in winter jackets, body lotion at Ikeja airport

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted consignments of Tramadol, Rohypnol, Ecstasy (Designer drug) and Cannabis concealed in winter jackets and bottles of body cream at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja,.

NDLEA spokesperson, Mr Femi Babafemi, said the psychoactive substances were recovered at the new terminal of the airport.

The NDLEA then arrested one Joshua Sunday who was travelling on a Qatar Airlines flight via Doha to Oman.

‘Gridlock to ease on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway by end of April’

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Engr. Umar Bakare, has said construction work on the Opic and Berger axis of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway will be completed by the end of April, easing commuters’ pain.

Bakare noted that the contractor has increased the number of working gangs to four in order to increase the pace of work towards meeting up with the April deadline.

Meanwhile, Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladehinde, said the state government is working with the Federal Ministry of Works and its project engineers to ensure construction is sped up while reducing the pain of road users.

Ikeja airport may be affected as aviation workers plan warning strike

Operations at parts of the Ikeja airport may be affected on Monday as aviation workers are set to embark on a two-day nationwide strike.

The warning strike is expected to be held on Monday and Tuesday.

The workers are demanding for the implementation of the national minimum wage and the implementation of the conditions of service negotiated over seven years ago, Punch Newspaper reported.

Sanwo-Olu goes to America, seeks investment for Lagos

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has described Lagos state as “the crown subnational jewel of the African economy.”

He made the comment while speaking at an event on the sidelines of the World Bank-IMF Spring Meetings in Washington DC, United States.

 “We have the market, we have the talent, we have the enabling environment, we have the physical infrastructure, all in place,” he said.

Fire incident recorded in Queens College

A fire outbreak was reported at Queens College in Yaba on Sunday.

According to Punch Newspaper, the incident was confirmed by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

“The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained,” fire chief Margaret Adeseye said. “No life was lost in the incident.” 

Ikeja court remands man for forming ‘Eiye Confraternity’ group

One Solomon Aboyarin has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly being the leader of Eiye Confraternity in the Okito area of Ajegunle, Apapa and for possessing weapons without lawful authority.

Magistrate H. B Mogaji, of the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court sitting in the Ogba area, did not take the plea of the defendant.

Aboyarin is being prosecuted by the police on three counts.

Ghana becomes first country to approve new malaria vaccine as Nigeria looks up to WHO

Ghana has become the first country to approve a new malaria vaccine developed by scientists at the University of Oxford.

The effectiveness of the vaccine – called R21 – appears to be hugely effective, in stark contrast to previous attempts, the BBC reported.

Meanwhile, Nigeria is working to meet a deadline for submission of applications for the second phase of the vaccine trials being coordinated by the World Health Organisation.
