18km Alimosho bypass toll road reaches feasibility stage

VODA Infrastructure Management Limited have presented the feasibility study for the 18-kilometre Alimosho bypass toll road project. Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, who was present at the presentation, said the feasibility study lays the foundation for the project’s construction and completion. The Bypass is expected to decongest Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway and increase revenue from road transportation.

LASIEC prepares for local government elections

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, (LASIEC), said it is working towards achieving electoral excellence at the local government election scheduled to take place before the end of July, Lagos Television reported. LASIEC Chairman, Bolu Okikiolu-Ighile, urged all staff to maintain political neutrality and uphold high ethical standards.

Wahab orders Apongbon traders to vacate illegal spots in 48 hours

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Apongbon Bridge traders along drainage setbacks. The Commissioner said their activities in the axis contributes to flooding and other environmental risk. “We will continue in our advocacy and enforcement but some people are just recalcitrant and for these set of people, they believe government will never come but whenever we notice infractions, we will remove them,” Commissioner Wahab said. “We are always very slow to wield the big stick but we would emphasize on advocacy and enlightenment.”

Citizen forum to hold today

The Ministry of Information and Strategy said it will host a citizen engagement forum today as part of its efforts to demonstrate a commitment to transparency, accountability, and citizen participation. However the statement was not clear on how the public will be able to participate in the forum.

Meranda, GAC brief Tinubu in Abuja

The Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, and members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held a crucial meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja on Thursday, the Nation Newspaper reported. The President was briefed about Obasa’s impeachment at the meeting, the paper added.

Air Sierra Leone resumes Lagos-Freetown flights after 15 years

Air Sierra Leone has resumed flights between Lagos and Freetown after 15 years. An inaugural ceremony marked the resumption on Wednesday. The airline is expected to operate weekly flights between Lagos and Freetown on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Market Safety Marshals introduced to prevent fires

The Lagos State Safety Commission has trained 50 market men and women on fire prevention, hazard identification, and response strategies. The trained persons were designated as safety marshals at a ceremony in Obanikoro Market, Lagos Island, recently. “We have applied a top-down and bottom-up approach, empowering locals as whistle-blowers to identify and report infractions,” Director of the Commission, Lanre Mojola, said.

Customs destroys 88 containers of expired drugs in Epe

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Thursday began destroying 88 containers of expired and fake pharmaceutical drugs worth billions of naira at the Alaro dumpsite in Epe. The drugs were intercepted at various seaports and land borders across the country. Assistant Comptroller General of Customs, Timi Bomodi, highlighted the operation’s significance for public health and security, stressing the collaboration with NAFDAC, NDLEA, and the National Security Adviser’s office. After Lagos, the destruction will continue in Port Harcourt, Calabar, and Kano.

1,030 New Police Constables Graduate in Lagos

Over 1,000 police constables graduated from the Police College in Ikeja on Thursday, the News Agency of Nigeria reported. The graduates were part of the 10,000 constables passing out simultaneously from four police colleges and 12 training colleges across the country.

Waterfront ministry launches bi-weekly “Walk for Life” initiative

The Lagos State Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development (MWID) has launched a “Walk for Life” initiative to promote staff health and wellness among its workers, Vanguard Newspaper reported. Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Lolade Aina, said the bi-weekly exercise would help improve staff productivity.
