Police dismiss Mushin DPO over sexual harassment case

The Lagos state police command has dismissed the divisional police officer in Mushin after a woman, identified as Omolara, said officials from the district had enabled a man, Bebex, who sexually harassed her.

Omolara had made a video which went viral on social media, prompting the intervention of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa.

“The CP also identified professional misconduct on the part of some of the police officers involved in the case,” police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, said. “For this, the Command Provost has been directed to immediately commence disciplinary action against the officers concerned.”

Sanwo-Olu mourns former Daily Times Editor-in-Chief, Peter Enahoro

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has mourned the death of the former Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Times, Peter Enahoro.

Sanwo-Olu, in a condolence message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, described the renowned columnist’s death as a colossal loss to journalism and the media industry in Nigeria.

“The death of our iconic journalist, Peter Enahoro, is a great loss to the media industry and Nigeria, as well as his family and friends. ‘Peter Pan’ will be greatly missed. He made lots of positive impacts during his lifetime, contributing meaningfully to the growth and development of journalism in Nigeria,” the governor said.

Space Observatory set to open in Ikeja

A space observatory, where people can rent telescopes to gaze at the stars, is set to launch in Ikeja.

Space Bar, which touts itself as Lagos’ first observatory, will also allow users to buy telescope accessories, print astrophotography, and access a space themed library.

“There is no place in Lagos where you can go to use various kinds of telescopes with your friends, stargaze with a space centered community, and access quality aerospace, astronomy literature,” one Damilola (@obiokeke) tweeted. “That’s why we are launching @SpaceBarAfrica in Ikeja. It has been a long time coming.” 

Lagos Book Walk to start from Ikeja bus-stop, end at LTV Ikeja

The organizers of the April 27th Lagos Book Walk have announced that the walk would commence from 7am at the Ikeja Bus Stop on Obafemi Awolowo Way and end at the premises of the Lagos State Television in Ikeja.

Participants would then retire for a series of readings at the Lagos State Television at the end of the walk, Business Hallmark reported.

This walk is organized to mark World Book Day 2023 and the commencement of Lagos’ tenure as Nigerian National Book Club City.

Passengers lament overcrowding, poor facilities as NRC increases train fares

Train passengers are lamenting overcrowding and the poor facilities and conditions in the coaches despite the recent train fare increase by the Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC.

According to a report by the Nigerian Tribune, the NRC increased the train fares from N460 to N700 flat rate for any destination between Iddo in Lagos to Kajola/Ijoko in Ogun State.

“The train’s chairs are in a deplorable condition. The roofing looks worn out. Many of the coaches lack windows and doors. So, when there is a downpour, passengers sitting by the windows or standing close to the doors get drenched,” a train passenger, Moshood Alabi told the Saturday Tribune.

The paramount ruler of Agidingbi is Dead

The Baale of Agidingbi, Ganiyu Aruna, has joined his ancestors.

He reportedly passed away on April 20.

“We have lost an uncommon Royal father who was always seeking the peace, security and development of his community and the society at large,” the lawmaker representing Ikeja Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Adedamola Richard Kasunmu, said

Federal lawmakers ask minister to halt Lagos aviation demolitions

The National Assembly’s joint committee on aviation has asked the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, to stop the intended demolition of the offices of aviation agencies in Lagos.

The request comes after aviation workers ended a two-day warning strike.

The lawmakers appeared to criticise “the continuous threats of demolition of aviation agencies: (FAAN, NCAA and NAMA) headquarters in Lagos without making reasonable provisions for befitting regional offices in Lagos being the nation’s aviation hub.”

Police, LASBCA officials invade Omole Estate, attack security guards

Armed policemen and officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency officials reportedly attacked some security guards at Omole Estate Phase 2 over refusal of entry into the estate.

One of the injured security guards, Shagbaor Justine, was ferried to a hospital for treatment, the Vanguard reported.

“The ones in red shirts flug the gate open and one of the armed uniformed men even cocked the gun at one of the security men, threatening to shoot him,” an eyewitness, Oloyede, told the Vanguard. “They took over the entire estate, blocked the other entrance and deprived people from going in or coming out.”

Man steals ex-employer’s cheque book, forges signature to withdraw N2.5m

A man identified as Victor Williams has been arraigned by the Lagos State Police Command before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a bank cheque belonging to his ex-employer, Alhaji Adekunle Moshood.

Williams was arraigned before Magistrate P. E. Nwaka on three counts of stealing and forgery.

 He was accused of forging Moshood’s signature on the cheque and withdrawing over N2m from the account, the Punch reported.

Lagos Govt to appeal court judgement nullifying Mc Olumo’s Parks Committee

The Lagos State Government has announced that it has applied for the Certified True Copy of the court judgment nullifying the appointment of the Lagos State Park Administrators Ad-Hoc Committee by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, with the intention to file an appeal.

The National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) sitting in Lagos had last week voided the appointment of the committee.

“All affected parties are enjoined to remain calm and be law-abiding,” a statement by the Director, Public Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Grace Alo partly read.
