Obasa roars
A political crisis may be brewing in Lagos after ousted Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa held a press conference on Saturday claiming his impeachment was unconstitutional and therefore void, Daily Trust reported. Although the lawmaker representing Oshodi-Isolo 1 Constituency, Stephen Olukayode Ogundipe, defended the impeachment, Vanguard Newspaper reported that members of the Governance Advisory Council, a powerful decision-making body within APC Lagos, are divided over Obasa’s dismissal.
LASTMA clears 130 illegally parked tankers
The Lagos State Management Traffic Authority (LASTMA) has cleared 130 tankers, buses and vehicles parked illegally along major roads and bridges. The Agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, said the move was aimed at reducing traffic disruptions. “It ensured unimpeded access for trucks entering and exiting the Dangote Refinery and safeguarded traffic flow along the Lekki-Ajah corridor,” he said.
Desist from energy theft, commissioner warns estate residents
The Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, has warned residents of government estates to desist from energy theft and other unwholesome practices. He made the comment after enforcement operations at the Lateef Kayode Jakande Estate in Igando. “In recent times, the Ministry of Housing has been inundated with reported cases of energy theft, discarding of shared facilities, and refusal to pay statutory estate dues and other contraventions,” he said. “These negative reports are disturbing acts of flouting rules and regulations in some state government estates occupied by allottees who either purchased the houses outright or got the home allocations through the rent-to-own scheme.”
Commissioner assures Lagosians of grassroots development
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy Gbenga Omotoso has assured Lagosians of grassroots development as the present administration is set to unveil several projects across the state. “This year, the present administration’s vision is to build on the gains of Y2024 through the commissioning of projects that would impact communities, especially at the grassroots,” Omotoso said, as quoted by Vanguard Newspaper.
Wahab prepares for Apongbon demolitions
The Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, on Sunday, led a team to tour the Savage/Elegbata/Bombata Drainage channel around Olowogbowo/ Apongbon axis in Lagos Island. The state government is set to demolish illegal stalls and shanties that have blocked drainages in the area on Tuesday after the expiration of a 48-hour quit notice issued to the stall owners.
Relief as tomato prices crash
The price of tomatoes have crashed in Lagos and other parts of the country after a bumper harvest, Tribune Newspaper reported. According to the paper, a large basket of tomatoes which sold as high as N150,000 in May now goes for between N13,000 to N15,000.
Lagos committed to gender-inclusive technical education, says Azeez
Executive Secretary, Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LASTVEB), Ms Moronke Azeez, has said that the state is committed to providing gender-inclusive technical education. She made the comment at an annual management retreat in Lekki.
NDLEA nabs two at Murtala Mohammed Airport
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Sunday arrested two suspects in possession of cannabis, popularly known as loud, at the Murtala Mohammed Airport.
LNSC arrest three for vandalism
The Lagos State Neighbourhood Security Corps arrested three suspects for stealing electric cables in Egbe-Idimu Local Council Development Area. According to The Guild Newspaper, the LNSC made the arrests during a night patrol.
Mosque sealed off over leadership dispute
The Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government, Ganiyu Egunjobi, has issued a directive to seal off a popular mosque called Mosalasi Alhaja. This was due to a leadership dispute, after the demise of the Chief Imam, the News Agency of Nigeria reported.
