Meranda debunks resignation rumour
Lagos State House of Assembly speaker has denied the rumour saying that she has resigned. Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary Segun Ajiboye dismissed the rumour on Wednesday saying that the rumour is the handiwork of mischief makers work linked to former speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, Punch Newspaper reoprted. “I urge members of the public to ignore such reports, as they are fake, unfounded, and without any iota of truth,” Ajiboye said.
Obasa denies firearms in his office
Obasa has denied ownership of 47 pump action guns discovered by officials of the Department of State Services in his office on Monday. While the details remain unclear, some sources claim the firearms were found in his office, while others say they were in the office of the former Chief Security Officer, the Punch reported.
LSETF kicks off MSME Loan On-the-Spot application in Ikeja
The Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) has launched its MSME Loan On-the-Spot Application at Ikeja LGA, offering business owners direct access to financial support. Running from February 19 to 20, the initiative allows entrepreneurs to apply in person with LSETF representatives providing guidance. Those unable to attend can still apply online at loans.lsetf.ng.
Sanwo-Olu receives NIM President
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu received the Governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), led by the President and Chairman, Commodore Abimbola Ayuba (Rtd), at Lagos House in Marina. He announced this in a post on his official X account.
Lagos to host E-Gaming competition across LGAs
The Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende has announced that the state government will host a statewide E-Gaming competition across all 57 LGAs and LCDAs. Following a meeting with gaming organizers and sport marketing aide Ope Adu, Ogunlende emphasized plans to expand E-Gaming to the grassroots, providing a platform for local talent. The competition aims to mirror global events like Paris Games Week and ICE Gaming Barcelona, offering Lagos gamers a chance to compete at an international level.
One-Week input for Ibeju 20 year plan
Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, has announced that residents and stakeholders can review and provide feedback on the Ibeju Lekki 20 year model city plan. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the public review will run from March 4 to March 7, between 9 am and 4 pm.
Agboyi-Ketu LCDA launches free health mission, tuberculosis program
Agboyi-Ketu LCDA has launched a three-day Free Health Mission and Tuberculosis Investiture Program, starting February 20, 2025. Announced by Executive Chairman Dele Oshinowo, the initiative, hosted by his wife, Tawa Oshinowo, will provide free screenings, vaccinations, and drug distribution across three locations. “This is another opportunity to prioritize your health, please take full advantage,” Oshinowo tweeted.
Daddy Showkey shares Warri-Itakpe train experience with NRC
Reggae artist Daddy Showkey met with the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) in Lagos to share his experience on the Warri-Itakpe train, where he entertained passengers during a refueling delay. He described the journey as eye-opening, noting the high demand for train services and calling for increased frequency, the Tribune Online reported. “It was a mixed experience, but I saw how much people rely on the train, especially for transporting farm produce,” he said. NRC MD, Dr. Kayode Opeifa commended him for turning a challenge into an opportunity and assured that service improvements remain a top priority.
Customs agents at MMIA lament over secretariat closure
The customs agents at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, are lamenting and protesting over the alleged closure of their secretariat by the airport’s commandant, Chioma Udo. This closure caused them significant losses, of almost 500 billion, Punch Newspaper reported. Meanwhile, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, has commenced the replacement of security systems including installation of explosive detection devices, Punch Newspaper reported.
Portable surrenders to police after being declared wanted
Singer Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, has turned himself in at the Lagos SCID after Ogun police declared him wanted for assaulting state officials. Lagos PRO, Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed this in a tweet. Ogun police spokesperson Omolola Odutola later confirmed his arrival at the State CID, Eleweran, Abeokuta. “His presence is connected to an ongoing investigation,” Odutola said. Before turning himself in, Portable claimed in a video that he was undergoing psychiatric treatment and pleaded for leniency, the Punch reported. Meanwhile, Hundeyin has disclosed that the news circulating in a viral video on social media, which claims that three men were suspected kidnappers, is false.
