Legislative profile: Noheem Babatunde Adams

Noheem Babatunde Adams, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is the majority leader of the 10th House of Assembly, representing Eti-Osa Constituency I.

He was first elected in October 2017 during a bye-election conducted to replace Ademola Alimi Kazeem, who had passed on in July 2017.

Only four percent of registered voters turned out for Mr. Adam’s election in 2017. He polled 4,204 votes to defeat his closest rival, Arubiewe Abogun of the Peoples Democratic Party, who polled 1,652 votes.

He was re-elected in 2019 and 2023.

Early life and education

Mr. Adams was born on April 15, 1980 in Lagos Island.

According to a statement on the House website, he is part of the families of “Adams Owoseni and Oketiri of Addo land and Imam Arafa Shitta Eletu Ogudu chieftaincy family.”

He also has a blood link to the lineage of the Olufunmi family of Sangotedo in Eti-Osa.

Mr. Adams is a member of the Ogombo Oba-in-Council and the Ogombo Baale-in-Council. In August 2023, he received the chieftaincy title of Otun-Oba of Ogombo Kingdom.

He holds a Bachelors of Science in Accounting and an MBA from Lagos State University.

After graduating from the Lagos State University with  a Bachelors of Science in Accounting and an MBA, Mr. Adams proceeded to the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service and served for almost a decade. He exited the service as a revenue supervisor to kick off his mainstream political career.

Mr. Adams is a director at Fowobi Estates and Development Company Limited, a real-estate outfit registered in 2013.

Political career

In an interview he granted to City People, Mr. Adams said he has been involved in politics since his days at the university.

“In 2003, I emerged the representative of accounting department in the students parliamentary council (SPC) of the LASU students Union. And I was only in my 100 level at the time,” he said.

“I also became at a time, the assistant general secretary of faculty of management sciences students association in my 200 level.

“In my 400 level, I became the chairman of the students union electoral committee and conducted one of the best elections ever conducted in the institution.”

Legislative work

Mr. Adams takes pride in facilitating infrastructure projects within his constituency. 

“I have gone the extra mile to empower my people one way or the other. But you know, you can’t satisfy everybody at the same time, that is totally impossible,” he told City People.

“What I will continue to do is stay committed to my promise to bring them the dividends of democracy the best way I possibly can. Once the funds to do more are available, they can be rest assured that I will do more and make sure it gets to everyone in every community.”

Below are some of the ways he has impacted his constituents:

  1. Donation of study equipment to Ajah Olomu Secondary School.
  2. Donation of a borehole to Ilaje Community in Ajah.
  3. Donation of a borehole to Igbara Community in Eti-Osa LGA
  4. Infrastructural project Iru Market in Eti–Osa.
  5. Empowerment of about 200 hundred people in Eti-Osa
  6. Donation of sewing, hairdressing machines, and generators to constituents
  7. Donation of JAMB and GCE forms to youths in Eti-Osa

As a member of the House, Mr Adams has served as the chairman of the assembly’s committee on tourism, arts and culture. 

The Baale of Ogombo land, Ogunbo Abiodun, has praised Mr. Adams for “the supportive and selfless roles he has played and he is still playing for the overall good, development and progress of our great land.”

In March 2021, the African Peace And Conflict Management Foundation announced Mr. Adams as the African Best National Legislator of the Year (2020), although the criteria for the selection was unclear.
