DSS arrest three House of Assembly workers

The Department of State Service on Saturday arrested three House of Assembly workers for attacking its officers last week. DSS officials had invaded the House on February 18, leading to pandemonium, amid a leadership tussle between impeached Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa and his replacement, Mojisola Meranda. However, the arrested persons have been released on bail, according to Sahara Reporters.

Court sacks house clerk

Meanwhile, the National Industrial Court sitting in Lagos sitting in Lagos has sacked the acting clerk, Ottun Babatunde, who was appointed by Speaker Mojisola Meranda. The court reinstated the former clerk of the House, Olalekan Onafeko, Punch Newspaper reported.

Sanwo-Olu receives recognition

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been honored with a certificate of recognition from the California Legislature Assembly for leadership, commitment to sustainable development, and innovative contributions to Lagos State. “This recognition strengthens our resolve to position Lagos as a growth, creativity, and innovation leader,” the Governor said. Also, Sanwo-Olu was awarded New Telegraph’s prestigious 2024 Governor of the Year Award for Projects.

Farmers receive free tools

The State Government, through the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD), has distributed various small scale farm tools to local farmers. While presenting the tools to them, Special Adviser on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Lanre-Agbaje, urged the beneficiaries to productively engage the tools for improved farm yield.

First 30km Lagos-Calabar highway ready by May

The Minister of Works, David Umahi has said the first 30km of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway will be ready and inaugurated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by May 2025, the Cable reported. He also said other parts of the highway have been awarded and construction will commence in the following weeks. Umahi also urged motorists to avoid excessive speed on the newly rehabilitated third mainland bridge.

DSVA trains 60 magistrates

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has trained 60 magistrates in the state on sexual and gender-based violence. Executive Secretary of DSVA, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, explained that sexual and gender based violence remains a big issue in the state and nation at large.

Medicine board shuts six centers

The Lagos Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board, in corporation with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, has carried out an enforcement exercise by shutting six centers operating without proper registration and regularisation of practice and with outdated documents. According to a post made by the State Government on X, the exercise was in response to the non-compliance of the traditional medicine practitioners with existing regulations.

Police investigate abandonment of six children in Ejigbo

The police are looking into the case of six children between the ages of seven and 13 suspected to be living alone in a building within an Ejigbo estate. Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the children were left with a caregiver by their mother, who is currently abroad for medical treatment. He added that the children are now in a protective shelter operated by the Ministry of Youth and Social Development and efforts have been made to reach out to their mother.

Thailand national nabbed at MMIA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested one Patthaphi Winmonat, a 24-year-old Thai at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, with 68 parcels of Ghanaian Loud. NAFDAC spokesperson, Femi Babafemi said the substances were discovered in her boxes.
