Tinubu is best man for Nigeria – Obasa

Speaker of the Lagos State of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa on Monday met with President Bola Tinubu to discuss issues of “national importance.” The six-term lawmaker said Tinubu is the best man for the job. “Together, we’ll work tirelessly to advance the welfare of our constituents and build a brighter future for all,” he said.

Eight persons feared dead as flood engulfs Agege community

About eight persons are feared missing following a flood caused by heavy downpour on Thursday around the Abattoir axis in Agege. However, the Divisional Police Officer, Abattoir Police Station, CSP Olatunji Oladimeji, disclosed to the Punch Newspaper that they were unable to file an official report due to the inconsistency of the stories made by eyewitnesses. “Nobody can tell us that they saw them. And till now, nobody has come here to report that anything has happened to them or their loved ones,” Oladimeji said.

LAGESC seizes alcohol worth 2m at motor parks, garages

The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) has seized alcohol worth about N2 million during a clampdown exercise carried out recently by its operatives. According to the Corps Marshal of the Agency, CP Gbemisola Akinpelu (retd), this exercise will be continuous to reduce the alarming rate at which liquor drinks are being sold in garages, motor parks, roadsides and in traffic.

FRSC announces new traffic diversion 

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has announced a new traffic diversion to aid commuters as the rehabilitation and reconstruction works on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway continues. FRSC Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, said “Motorists could pass through Ojodu and make a U-turn in front of FRSC Ojodu to link the expressways at BRT Bus-stop.”

Report: DSS finds 18 bags of money at Emefiele’s Lagos home

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have reportedly found 18 Ghana-must-go bags containing money and documents during a search in the residence of the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele. The Nigerian Tribune, in an exclusive scoop, revealed that Emefiele’s personal assistant is on the run. “He is the key to unlock Emefiele’s assets and wealth stashed away within and outside the country,” a source told the newspaper.

CNG, LPG cheaper than petrol, Lagos govt says to residents

As residents in Lagos State are trying to adapt to the high cost of petrol due to the removal of fuel subsidy, the State Government has urged them to consider the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

The Director General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr Lanre Mojolain in a statement issued on Sunday said CNG and LPG are cost effective and generally cheaper than petrol, the Punch reported.

However, he cautioned residents to be careful about the conversion process noting that “LPG is bottled under high pressure with potential for explosions if not properly handled.”

Angry Lagos residents assault Ikeja Electric staff over disconnection of power supply 

Angry residents assaulted and stabbed two members of Ikeja Electric Company, Opeyemi Rabiu and Olamelekan Musiliu, while they were on official duty to disconnect power supply over accumulated bills at Shoremekun Street, Aboru.

According to P.M Express, three of the suspects, Adeshina Ariyo, 23, Sina Akande, 53 and Kabiru Raman, 55, were arrested by the police and charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court. The case was adjourned while the defendants were remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.

Lagos Govt to demolish 17 distressed buildings at Alaba market 

The General Manager of Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Arc. Gbolahan Oki has disclosed that  17 distressed buildings at Alaba International Market in the Ojo area of the State will be demolished soon.

Oki revealed that some of these buildings have been marked for demolition since 2016, expressing that the seven years’ notice was enough warning for the occupants of the buildings.

Lagos DSVA, Ikeja NBA sensitize Ogba, Ikeja residents on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) collaborated with the Nigeria Bar Association, Ikeja Branch, to sensitise Ogba and Ikeja residents on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in commemoration of the Ikeja Branch Law Week 2023, themed “The Nigerian Lawyer: Earning Wealth And Keeping Fit In Challenging Times”.

The Executive Secretary of DSVA, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi while speaking on Friday urged the residents to boldly report SGBV cases to the right agencies and break the culture of silence.

20 Hoodlums attack Task Force operatives in Lagos

About 20 armed hoodlums on Monday tried to free an impounded vehicle after its driver drove against traffic along Meiran road, attacking operatives of the Lagos State Task Force during the recovery attempt.

The spokesperson of the Task Force, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, confirmed the attack in a statement, disclosing that three persons, including the gang leader, have been arrested.
