TCN to restore power in three days after transmission line faults

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), a federal government-owned utility, is set to restore electricity in three days after snapped transmission lines reduced power supply, causing outages in areas covered by Eko and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Companies (EKEDC and IKEDC), Daily Post Newspaper reported.

Lagos Government launches emergency diphtheria vaccination

The Lagos State Government has launched an emergency vaccination campaign to curb the spread of diphtheria following an outbreak at King’s College Annexe, Victoria Island. Prof. Akin Abayomi, along with school management, PTA executives, and alumni, inspected key school facilities, including dormitories, classrooms, and sanitation areas. “This disease thrives in crowded environments with poor ventilation,” Abayomi said. He further called for better spacing, airflow, and access to clean water to prevent further transmission.

Obasa in dispute with deputy Meranda over N5 billion SUV purchase

Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa is in a dispute with his deputy, Mojisola Meranda, over her approval of N5 billion to purchase 40 Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs for lawmakers. Obasa argues that Meranda lacked the authority to authorize such a disbursement. Prior to his removal, Obasa had planned to buy 45 Toyota Fortuner SUVs. People’s Gazette reported.

Lawmakers refutes defection rumour

Chairman of the House of Assembly Committee on Information, Strategy, and Security, Ogundipe Olukayode has dismissed claims that 25 APC lawmakers plan to defect, calling the report “entirely false and without merit.” He recalled that similar allegations during the recent leadership dispute were also refuted and emphasized that internal disagreements are resolved through democratic processes, Punch Newspaper reported, Olukayode urged those spreading misinformation to desist, reaffirming the Assembly’s commitment to its legislative responsibilities.

Police, Navy collaborate to fight crime

The Lagos State Police Command and Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft have agreed to strengthen cooperation in crime fighting and intelligence gathering. This decision followed a courtesy visit by Commodore Paul Nimmyel, the new NNS Beecroft Commander, to Police Commissioner Olorundare Jimoh on Tuesday. NAN reported.

Group raises alarm over alleged illegal promotion under Obasa’s leadership

A pro-Lagos development group, Agenda for New Lagos, has raised concerns over alleged illegalities under the leadership of Obasa, claiming that Olalekan Biilamin Onafeko, Obasa’s preferred clerk, was fraudulently promoted in 2022 through a “Special Advancement” letter that only required gubernatorial approval. The group has called on the Nigerian Bar Association, civil society, and democracy supporters to scrutinize the situation, This Day Newspaper reported.

Fire service extinguishes inferno caused by tanker accident on Otedola Bridge

The Fire Service has extinguished a blaze caused by a tanker accident under the Otedola Bridge. The incident involved a 30-tonne DAF gas truck, which had an unknown registration number. Firefighters quickly responded to the scene, preventing the fire from spreading further.

Petrol worth N35.8 million seized by customs in Lagos-Ogun smuggling operation

Nigeria Customs Service’s Operation Whirlwind intercepted 28,300 liters of petrol valued at N35.8 million, smuggled from Lagos and Ogun states to the Benin Republic. The petrol, stored in 1,132 jerry-cans, was concealed using various methods, with the Badagry-Seme Corridor identified as a major smuggling route. Daily Trust Newspaper reported.

Pro-Indigeneship group calls for Obasa’s resignation

The De-Renaissance Patriots Foundation, a pro-indigeneship group, has called for Speaker Obasa’s resignation in response to APC chieftain Dr. Muiz Banire’s defense of Bisi Akande and Aremo Olusegun Osoba’s intervention in the Lagos Assembly crisis. The group criticized Banire’s claim that the elders of the foundation misunderstood Meranda’s forced resignation, arguing that Obasa’s leadership undermines democracy and indigenous interests, Vanguard Newspaper reported.

Cycling Lagos set for May 31st

The fourth edition of the Cycling Lagos competition will take place on May 31, 2025, with a Mini Tour of Lagos kicking off on May 15. The event, themed Sustainable Energy, will feature various race categories, including celebrity and children’s races, The Guardian Newspaper reported.
