Rhodes-Vivour faults Makoko sand filling
Former gubernatorial candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has criticized the state government over the ongoing sand-filling activities in the Makoko area. “The development in Lagos cannot just be constantly only with the elites in mind, and displacing the poor and the vulnerable,” he said during an interview on Arise TV.
Green-line rail top 2025 project list
The Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Ope George, said the Green line rail is one of the top infrastructure projects for 2025, Nairametrics reported. The 68km rail-line will run from Marina to the Lekki free trade zone.
Sanwo-Olu commissions key project
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu commissioned the newly rehabilitated Ikoyi club road on Friday. Sanwo-Olu revealed this in an announcement on his official X account explaining the rehabilitation process. He also commissioned two other projects on Friday. These projects include the Abudu Smith Street, and the alternative route via Oniru Road, which leads directly to the Admiralty Circle and the Toll Plaza in Lekki in Eti-Osa Local Government Area.
US consulate to close on Monday
The United States Consulate General will be temporarily closed on Monday in observance of Presidents’ Day. Also, the U.S. embassy in Abuja will remain closed to mark the occasion. Normal activities will resume on Tuesday, February, 18.
Oke Arin and Gorodom markets reopens
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab said the Oke Arin and Gorodom markets in Lagos Island have reopened. Commissioner made this statement on his official X (formerly twitter) page on Sunday. He said the traders have signed an undertaking on cleanliness and sanitation. He also issued a 48-hour quit notice to the traders under the Idumota/Ebute Ero police post. “Every trader must prioritize proper sanitation practices,” he said.
Lagos turns to concrete railings over steel
It appears the state government is partly resorting to concrete railings over steel due to vandalism and theft. A video posted by government spokesperson Jubril Gawat on Sunday shows concrete railings on what appears to be the Iponri link bride to Ijora Olopa. “Concrete railings for Eko bridge being done,” Gawat added.
Waste-to-value collection hub launched
The state government has launched a waste-to-value collection hub, under the Charity Begins at Home 2.0 initiative, PM Newspaper reported. Speaking at the launch in Alausa, Ikeja, the Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, said the initiative goes beyond waste management and will enable civil servants to exchange recyclable waste for financial rewards. “It introduces sustainable financial inclusion structures, such as decision, adjunct and cooperative models that provide economic resilience for civil servants,” he said.
Illegal buildings risk demolition in Banana Island
The General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, Gbolahan Oki, has announced plans to mark illegal buildings in Banana Island starting from Monday, Punch Newspaper reported. Oki mentioned that the move targets buildings that violate building regulations, safety risks, and unauthorised encroachments.
LASTMA rescues 13 in autocrash
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said it rescued 13 injured passengers involved in an accident at College Bus Stop, along Ikotun-Igando Road. The casualties were immediately moved to a nearby private hospital.
LAWMA warns against illegal scavenging and recycling
The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has warned property owners, agents, and private occupiers to stop illegal recycling and scavenging as well as storing of recyclable waste in unapproved areas. LAWMA’s boss, Muyiwa Gbadegeshin, said illegal recycling and scavenging can harm the city’s aesthetics, infringe on property owners’ rights, and pose significant environmental risks.
