Police mandates third-party insurance

The Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola, has ordered the immediate enforcement of the mandatory third-party motor vehicle insurance policy across the state. The directive follows an order from Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, mandating strict compliance with the insurance requirement starting from February 1, 2025, Blueprint Newspaper reported.

Tinubu’s directive reinstating Obasa is fake news, says Lawmaker

President Bola Tinubu did not ask members of the House of Assembly to reinstate Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker, a lawmaker told Vanguard Newspaper. An online news publication had reported on Sunday that Tinubu was pushing for Obasa’s replacement. However, the lawmaker said the report was fake news. “Lagos lawmakers are solidly behind the leadership of Rt Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, who was constitutionally elected,” the anonymous lawmaker said.

LAGESC commences clamp down on street traders

In a bid to sustain safety and security of Lagos residents and sanity on the highways, the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) has begun a clamp down operation on street traders. Commander of LAGESC, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (rtd), said that his agency would enforce the Lagos State Street Trading and Illegal Market Prohibition Law. “We are out to put a stop to it through this exercise,” he said.

Patients beg for relocation of dump site

Patients at the Alimosho General Hospital, Igando are pleading with the state government to relocate the dumpsite opposite the hospital. The patients said the stench from the dump site was sickening and the heaps of refuse were unsightly, the News Agency of Nigeria reported.

Coca-Cola unveils collection hub in Apapa

Coca-Cola has launched a packaging collection hub in Apapa with the aim to contribute to cleaner communities and fostering collective action in reducing packaging waste. The hub has the capacity to process 13,000 metric tonnes of plastic bottles annually, Daily Post Newspaper reported.

Taskforce arrests 22 hoodlums in Obalende, BRT terminal

In response to numerous complaints from the residents of Obalende and the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), the Lagos Taskforce carried out an operation against hoodlums disrupting activities in the area. The operation, which was led by the Taskforce Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, took place on Saturday night. According to the Tribune Newspaper, suspects were caught in possession of dangerous weapons and illicit drugs.

Businessman nabbed at MMIA with cocaine

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested one Chijioke Igbokwe, a 59-year-old businessman, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport with 81 pellets of cocaine in his stomach. NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said the suspect underwent surgery to remove 57 out of 81 cocaine pellets lodged in his stomach.

Nine year old sexual assault victim rescued

The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, in cooperation with the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, has rescued a nine-year-old girl who was sexually molested by one Baba Michael in the Ayobo area. The arrest was in response to a viral video made by Comedian Princess, who raised the alarm to notify the public.

Tension rises in market over land dispute

Traders and artisans at Owode-Onirin market have urged President Bola Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene as suspected land grabbers use security agents and street urchins to threaten them. Sun Newspaper reported that there is an ongoing court case over the issue of ownership.

State boosts inclusive sports, athlete development

The Lagos state Sport Commission has intensified its effort to boost inclusion in sports. The Director General of the Commission, Lekan Fatodu stressed the importance of inclusion at the grand finale of Lagos State U-20 Volleyball Club Championship held at the Volleyball Court of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.
