Several communities, including Mile 12, Agiliti, and Irawo, have been flooded due to the release of water from the Oyan dam, the Guardian reported.
Meanwhile, the state government has been inspecting affected areas, promising to address the situation.
“We thank the President for awarding the contract for the capital dredging of the Ogun river through Itowolo and expanding the width of it, so that when they discharge water from the dam, the water level will not be this high,” the commissioner for environment and water resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said. “That contract has been awarded and I think they started the work around 18th of September. But that is also not enough, we had to come and empathise with the people that stay here.”
