The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has projected that Lagos will maintain its position as the third largest economy among African cities, trailing only Cairo and Johannesburg.
The report highlights African cities as key drivers of global population growth, forecasting rapid expansion through 2035.
Lagos, ranked among Africa’s top 100 cities, is expected to house more than 21% of the continent’s population and contribute over 60% of Africa’s GDP by 2035.
However, it noted that city planners must confront a number of challenges, including “overcrowding, informal settlements, high unemployment, poor public services, stretched utility services and exposure to climate change impacts.”
