The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) welcomed Mojisola Meranda as Lagos’ first female Speaker, advising her to avoid the mistakes that led to the removal of her predecessor. IPAC emphasized the need for inclusivity and strong relationships with lawmakers and political parties.

Ajetunmobi quietly reinstated

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has quietly reinstated his Senior Special Assistant on Print Media, Wale Ajetunmobi, according to SaharaReporters. This comes two months after suspending him over controversial comments regarding the 2020 #EndSARS protests. Ajetunmobi was reinstated following lobbying by the governor’s inner circle, with advice to be cautious with his online posts.

Academic boost initiative for WAEC and NECO students

Lagos State has launched the Eko Learners’ Support program to assist WAEC and NECO candidates, offering 320 lessons across 10 subjects via TV and social media. Commissioner Jamiu Alli-Balogun introduced the 26-week initiative to foster collaboration between students and teachers, aiming to enhance academic performance.

Lagos launches polio response

Lagos will be conducting a polio outbreak response exercise from January 18 to 22, targeting all 20 local governments and 37 local council areas. The initiative seeks to maintain Nigeria’s polio-free status by vaccinating children in various locations, including homes, schools, and public places.

Court to hear suit against Lagos-Calabar highway award

The Federal High Court will hear a lawsuit on January 27, 2025, challenging the N15tn award of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project to HiTech Construction. The plaintiff claims the award violated procurement laws and lacked an Environmental Impact Assessment.

Fatal crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway leaves one dead, seven injured

A fatal accident occurred at Danlitti turning on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday, involving 18 people. A truck collided with a Mazda bus, causing it to hit another truck. One person died, and seven others were injured. The body was taken to a morgue, and the injured victims were hospitalized.
