Lagos empowering rural youths

The state government said it is empowering young people in rural areas with skills such as blog creation and online marketing, according to the Nation Newspaper. It is not clear how the empowerment is being carried out but the newspaper cited a press statement that said a one-day training took place recently at the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat.

UNILAG concludes 55th convocation ceremony

The University of Lagos concluded its 55th convocation ceremony with a thanksgiving service on Sunday. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola expressed her gratitude to God, the staff, students and other stakeholders of the University for contributing to a successful ceremony.

Access Bank marathon to host 4,000 athletes

The 10th edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, scheduled to hold on February 15, is set to attract over 4,000 athletes, according to the National Sports Commission. This year’s race is themed “Love in the Air,” as it will be held just after Valentine’s Day.

China’s spring festival set for January 29

The Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, Ms. Yan Yuqing has announced that the 2025 Spring Festival will be held on January 29. According to Yuqing, the celebration will include activities such as pasting Spring Festival couplets, going to temple fairs, setting off fireworks, having reunion meals, and visiting relatives and friends, the Nation Newspaper reported.

Fire guts Bogobiri House in Ikoyi

A section of Bogobiri House in Ikoyi caught fire on Saturday evening, prompting a response from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service. “The operation has wrapped up without any record of victim as the investigation into the course has began in earnest,” the fire service said in a statement.

LASUED lecturers threaten strike

The Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to embark on a strike over its members’ poor welfare and irregularities in salary payment. According to the union chairman, Dr. Akolade Lapite, members are being owed 72 months arrears of salary increment.

‘Hoodlums’ forced to sweep pedestrian bridge

The Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources arrested some suspected ‘hoodlums’ and forced them to undertake community service for defiling the pedestrian bridge with waste and defecation at Ile-Epo, around Abule Egba area. According to Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab, “the enforcement showcases our commitment to maintaining a hygienic environment and ensuring public spaces remain accessible and pleasant for all Lagosians.”

Task Force raids blackspots, apprehends 27 suspects

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Task Force arrested 27 suspects in their hideouts around Ikeja underbridge and Ayinke house in the early hours of Saturday. According to Commissioner Wahab, the suspects unleash attacks on unsuspecting late and early hours, innocent passers-by particularly, those coming in and out of Ambiance Hotel within the area.

School shut over toddler’s death

Officials of the Lagos State Safety Commission and the Office of Education Quality Assurance, under the Ministry of Education, have shut Smiley Kids Montessori, located at Heritage Place Estate, in Sangotedo, after a two year old toddler died in the school’s swimming pool, ThisDay Newspaper reported.

Residents fear Mushin cult clash

Residents in the Idi Araba area of Mushin have expressed fear over renewed attacks by cultists. According to Punch Newspaper, two rival groups identified as Kesari Boys and Hunter Boys clashed on Friday.
