Lagos to host electric boat racing championship

Lagos will host the E1 World Championship in September, with organizers touring the city’s waterways to assess infrastructure readiness, PM News reported. On Monday, Governor Sanwo-Olu welcomed the delegation, led by FEDA CEO Marlene Ngoyi Mvidia, alongside football legend Didier Drogba and E1 Racing Chairman, Alejandro Agag. The event aims to boost water sports in Africa and has attracted global sports icons like LeBron James and Rafael Nadal.

Sanwo-Olu, lawmakers meet GAC over Obasa crisis

As the political crisis in Lagos deepens, Sanwo-Olu and several lawmakers were summoned by the Governance Advisory Council to resolve the rift over the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa. While Obasa was invited, it remains unclear whether he attended the closed-door meeting at Lagos House, Marina, THISDAY reported. His ouster on January 13 sparked tensions, leading to DSS interrogations of lawmakers following his petition alleging political victimization and financial mismanagement. Meanwhile, the new Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, was seen being welcomed by an entourage on Monday after the meeting, where she was reaffirmed as the legitimate Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

LAMATA engages local councils ahead of Purple Line rail project

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has begun stakeholder meetings for the Purple Line, which will span five local governments, four LCDAs, and two Ogun State councils. LAMATA officials met with leaders in Ikeja, Agege, and Ojodu to discuss project impact and secure support.

App-based drivers reject Bolt’s 50% fare cut, plan protest

The Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) has condemned Bolt’s 50% fare reduction, calling it unfair and financially crippling for drivers. According to Punch Newspaper, union spokesperson, Steven Iwindoye, in a Sunday statement, criticized ride-hailing companies like Bolt, Uber, Indrive, and Rida for worsening drivers’ struggles. “We call on all drivers to unite for the protest; accepting these unfair conditions weakens our cause,” he said.

FEC approves N3.09tn for Lagos-Calabar highway, others

The Federal Executive Council has approved N3.09tn for several road projects nationwide, including sections of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway and key roads in the Federal Capital Territory. Minister of Works, Dave Umahi announced the approvals, which include N5.4bn for Ado-Ekiti and Igede projects and N102bn for six others, such as Egbeda (Lagos-Ogun) and Abuja-Lokoja, Punch Newspaper reported.

LASBCA orders removal of illegal structures under power lines

The Lagos State Government has ordered the removal of illegal structures beneath high-tension and power lines within seven days. The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) announced the directive on its official X account, citing safety risks such as electrocution, fire outbreaks, and environmental damage. LASBCA’s Director of Public Affairs, Adu Ademuyiwa, said the move aims to protect lives and property, urging compliance to avoid enforcement actions.

Sanwo-Olu hails Tems’ Grammy win

Sanwo-Olu has congratulated singer Temilade Openiyi, known as Tems, for winning the 67th Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance. In a statement by his media adviser, Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu described the win as a milestone that reinforces Lagos as a hub for entertainment and creativity. “Temilade Openiyi once again has proved to the world that she is a creative and uncommon talent,” he said.

Government warns motorists against paying touts for illegal parking

The Lagos State Government has warned motorists against paying touts for unauthorized parking on bridges and open spaces, saying violators will face strict enforcement. Special Adviser on Transportation, Sola Giwa, raised concerns over private vehicle owners engaging street urchins for illegal parking, which worsens traffic congestion, Gazette reported. “Noncompliance impedes seamless traffic flow,” Giwa said. Notorious spots include Ebute-Ero, Oyingbo, Iyana-Ipaja, and Medical Road. He reaffirmed that payments to touts do not legitimize violations, urging motorists to obey traffic regulations and avoid patronizing illegal parking operators.

Lands Bureau guides Ojota residents on title registration

Officials from the Lagos State Lands Bureau have engaged residents of Ojota on the importance of regularizing their land documents. Led by Director of Land Regularization, Esv. Olayinka Wasiu, the team held an informative session in Ogudu Orioke under the supervision of Permanent Secretary Kamar Olowoshago. He emphasized the benefits of formal land ownership, highlighting government efforts to digitize and archive land records for greater transparency and efficiency. Officials reassured residents that the digitization process will simplify land title applications, urging them to take advantage of the opportunity.

Konga launches FM radio station with free ad slots for businesses

E-commerce giant Konga has launched Konga FM 103.7, a new radio station in Lagos, offering a mix of commerce, entertainment, and spiritual content. Ifeoma Ajumobi, head of KongaTV and Konga FM, described it as “new, bold, and different,” emphasizing its AI-driven programming and commitment to supporting businesses. “We are open to feedback during our test run until February 21, and from February 22, we will define our standard.
