Lagos to organise monthly tours to boost tourism

The state government has revealed plans to organize monthly tours as part of efforts to boost tourism.. The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Idris Aregbe, announced this initiative during a special event for Nigerians in the diaspora and Lagos enthusiasts, Punch Newspaper reported.

Tourism expert lauds Greater Lagos 2025

Meanwhile, tourism expert, Mr. Ikechi Uko has lauded the Greater Lagos 2025 event which was held at Tafawa Balewa Square on December 31. Mr. Uko commended the state Commissioner for Tourism, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka for making the event a success. “Congratulations, Madam Toke Benson,” Voice of Nigeria quoted him as saying. “You have made Nigeria proud. We are now on the global tourism spotlight.”

New Year Thanksgiving

The state government held its annual New Year Thanksgiving event at Tafawa Balewa Square on Sunday. According to Governor Sanwo-Olu, the annual event is designed to reflect on the achievements made in the state in the past year.

“International airport, rail system expansion”

Speaking at the New Year Thanksgiving event, Governor Sanwo-Olu reassured residents that his administration will redouble efforts in every sector and continue to set the pace for the rest of the country. “This year, we will focus on securing financing for ambitious projects, including a new international airport and expanding our municipal rail system,” the Governor said. “We also aim to implement the new Electricity Law to ensure reliable power for all.

Commissioner shuts down construction site for blocking drainage

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, shut three buildings for dumping building materials on drainage channels in Lagos Island on Sunday.The Commissioner issued the order during an inspection of the area and warned developers and residents against dumping building materials on roads and drainage channels.

No going back on single-use plastics

Meanwhile, Commissioner Wahab has reiterated that there is no going back on the impending ban on single-use-plastics. The ban is set to take effect this month.

Low turnout as Model Colleges resume

Lagos state model colleges recorded a low turnout of returning students on Sunday. According to the Independent Newspaper, this was due to the boarding fee hike from N35,000 to N100,000.

Outrage as PTA fees spike in Technical College

Meanwhile, parents of students of the Federal Science and Technical College in Yaba have expressed concerns over the sudden increment of PTA fees. According to the Guardian Newspaper, the fee was increased from N5,000 to N11,500.

NDLEA nabs 61-year-old socialite on New Year’s day

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has announced the arrest of 61-year-old socialite, Alhaja Aishat Feyisara Ajoke Elediye, popularly known as “Iya Ruka,” in her residence at Okota.

Woman disappears with two children in Alimosho

A woman mysteriously vanished with two children at 3a, Gbadamosi Street, Igando on December 30, the Sun Newspaper reported.
