On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, fast-rising Ikorodu-born singer, rapper, and composer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, sadly passed away at the age of 27.

Here are nine things you need to know about the late singer.

  • Mohbad was born on June 8, 1996, in Lagos, Nigeria.
  • His previous stage name was 2Black. – He got his Mohbad which translated to “I’m bad“stage name after a producer told him he was bad – a street way of saying he was very good with lyrics and songs.
  • He joined Naira Marley’s Marlian Music Record Label alongside Zinoleesky, Fabian blu, and Cblvck on On January 1, 2020.
  • He released his debut album, Light EP, in the fourth quarter of 2020 as a follow-up to his viral song “Ponmo,” which featured Naira Marley and Lil Kesh.
  • Mohbad had collaborated with several other artistes including Davido, Zlatan, Oladips, Small Doctor, Bella Shmurda, Lil Frosh amongst others.
  • In February 2022, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested Mohbad, Zinoleesky and four other people following their possession of illegal substances like MDMA and cannabis at their home in Lekki, Lagos.
  • In 2022, Mohbad terminated his contract with Marlian Music Records citing abuse and exploitation.
  • On 5 October 2022, Mohbad accused singer Naira Marley of domestic violence and stated that his former boss ordered people to beat him up.
  • In 2023, Mohbad’s friend Bella Shmurda revealed that Mohbad attempted suicide because of the rift between him and his former record label boss.
