National Grid Collapse: List of Areas in Lagos Still in Darkness, Why

Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IE) has attributed the ongoing power outage in some parts of Lagos to load restrictions at its various transmission centres.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had said that the national grid collapsed for 24 hours on Thursday, which was caused by shortage of gas from generation companies. It added that power was restored to parts of Ikeja but other parts of Lagos are yet to be reconnected.

In a statement, the management of Ikeja Electric acknowledged that the limitations of the company’s transmission network is the reason for power outages for customers in Lagos.

“The current service disruption you are encountering is as a result of significant load restrictions across many of our transmission load centers, particularly impacting Oworo TS, Maryland TS, Itire TS, Isolo TS, Ogba TS, Alausa TS, Ejigbo TS, Alimosho TS, Ilupeju TS, Ayobo TS,” the statement reads in part.

Transmission limitations, or load restrictions, occur when there are limits on the amount of electricity that can flow through the power grid.

These restrictions can be due to several factors such as maintenance work, system upgrades, or to prevent overloading which could lead to equipment failure or power outages.

The company also mentioned that it is working in collaboration with other key stakeholders to guarantee resumption of normal service operations.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused. We are actively collaborating with relevant stakeholders to restore normal operations,” the statement reads.
