Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) have apprehended a notorious ‘one chance’ armed robbery gang at Jubilee Bridge in the Abule-Egba area of Lagos.

The armed robbers, identified as a trio, had been causing havoc in the Abule-Egba community and its surroundings. They were captured along with their operational vehicle, a painted ‘T4’ commercial bus (APP 406 YE), at the U-turn area of Abule-Egba. Unfortunately, one member of the gang managed to escape with a P.O.S machine before the police could intervene.

According to Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, the public played a crucial role in apprehending the criminals.

Witnesses noticed a man being forcibly pushed out of the robbers’ vehicle after a robbery. The witnesses initiated a pursuit, prompting a reckless escape attempt by the criminals.

The chase ended when LASTMA officials, responsible for controlling and managing traffic in the Abule-Egba axis, successfully apprehended the armed robbery gang. The suspects were later handed over to the police at the ‘Ile-Epo’ Police Division for further investigation.

Mr. Bakare Oki Olalekan, the General Manager of LASTMA, took the opportunity to appeal to the public, particularly commuters, urging them to exercise caution and avoid boarding commercial buses by the roadside, commonly referred to as ‘So-le.’
