The Lagos State and Niger State governments have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to battle food scarcity and high inflation on food in Lagos.

The MoU tagged  “Produce for Lagos Initiative” is meant to pave the way for a sustainable agriculture future in both Lagos State and Niger State.

“I signed the Memorandum of Understanding with Governor @HonBago, paving the way for a sustainable agricultural future, where food security and productivity thrives between Lagos State and Niger State. Together, we are setting a new standard for state collaboration,” Babajide Sanwoolu revealed in a statement via X.

“The essence of the #ProduceForLagos initiative lies in its strategic partnership, aiming to harness Niger State’s vast agricultural potential and Lagos State’s organized market. From paddy to tubers and grains, this initiative guarantees a consistent supply of essential food items.”

He also mentioned that Niger State farmers would not need to worry about their produce getting rotten and making loss because there is a readily available market for their produce while Lagosians will also benefit from steady price and availability of food emphasizing that this MoU is a testament to the government’s commitment to creating a sustainable ecosystem that benefits everyone involved.

“With this agreement, Niger State farmers are assured of a steady market for their produce, fostering growth and stability in their livelihoods. Meanwhile, Lagosians will benefit from regular access to food supplies, ensuring availability and price stability of essential food items,” the statement reads in part

“The #ProduceForLagos initiative is a cornerstone for the future, particularly with our already established food logistics hubs, as well as the upcoming hubs in Ketu-Ereyun, Epe and other locations. This plan is set to revolutionize our food supply chain, ensuring efficiency, sustainability, and resilience for generations to come.”
