- Confusion over minimum wage in Lagos
In a rather interesting twist, there was confusion over the reported increase of the minimum wage in Lagos State by the State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The Lagos State Government later refuted the reports, noting that the governor was misquoted, but many Lagos await the announcement of the new minimum wage by the Federal Government, which the State has pledged to implement.
- Chess champion back in Lagos
The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, celebrated the return of Tunde Onakoya, the renowned chess champion, to Lagos. The chess champion broke the world record for the longest chess marathon in New York City while trying to raise $1 million for underprivileged children’s education in Africa.
- Three heart breaking stories from the Lagos Island market fire
The Record documented the story of at least three persons who lost their livelihoods to the recent Lagos Island inferno. The affected traders have been calling on the government and public-spirited individuals to come to their aid as the loss impacts the livelihood of multiple families in the area.
- Lagos to celebrate Yoruba week
The Lagos State House of Assembly has received a letter from the executive arm of the State government announcing a decision to set the last week of September every year for the celebration of Yoruba culture. The decision of the government followed a resolution passed by the Lagos Assembly at a sitting held on September 19, 2023.

- Indian school to be investigated for discriminating against Nigerians
The Lagos State Government has launched an investigation into the activities of an Indian language school accused of discriminating against Nigerians, in Ilupeju, Lagos. The school was accused of only admitting children of Indian nationals and refusing Nigerian children admission.

The Lagos State Government has taken a major step to mitigate cyber security risks to its systems, assets and data by setting up a cybersecurity advisory board. The new board will facilitate the design, implementation and management of an effective cybersecurity programme.

The curious case of the death of Gihan Mbelu, the chairman of upscale Lagos community, Victoria Garden City, has caused apprehension in the community, as many questions are left unanswered as to the circumstances surrounding his death. The Police are investigating the matter and it is expected that more details would emerge when they complete their investigations.
- Landmark beach shut down for Lagos-Calabar coastal road
The Federal Government has commenced the demolition of structures on its right of way for the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road. The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, said no structure belonging to the Landmark beach resort was demolished, adding that only shanties erected on the government’s right of way were affected.
- Fuel scarcity: Lagos sets up helpline to check activities of back market dealers
The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has said its officials are on active surveillance to check the activities of fuel racketeers and black market vendors in the wake of fuel scarcity in the State. The Ministry said it will continue to monitor the traffic situation, calling on the general public to report fuel stations disrupting movement through its hotlines: 09020004000 or 09020009000.
