Ikeja Record is a community newspaper that focuses on the politics, business and culture of Ikeja and wider Lagos.
We are looking for stories about the Ikeja and Lagos community. We are biased to stories that focus on people, including local politicians, community leaders and innovators at the local level. But we will also publish stories about issues and events if they are compelling.
We do not publish stories with a national scope, except there is a ‘Lagos angle’ that has been missed by other publications.
Currently, we are looking for profiles about lawmakers in the Lagos State House of Assembly. Please review our website to see the profiles we have published. Here is an example of what our legislative profile looks like.
We do not currently accept news stories. However, we are looking for news analysis about events in Lagos. We are also looking for essays on the Lagos condition, although the bar for acceptance is quite high.
We accept photo stories. A photo story should include a set of at least six pictures.
Compensation
Our average payment for an accepted story is N40,000. The minimum payment is N25,000.
We will make you an offer after we accept your pitch. This may be lower or higher than N40,000. For reported stories, we will cover the cost of transportation and other relevant expenses.
Please note that your payment is only approved after the story has been published, although we will make exceptions in special circumstances.
How to pitch
Send an email to [email protected]. Include the word ‘Pitch’ in the subject line of your email.
Here is a short, general guide on how to pitch to editors.
We aim to reply to every email and usually provide feedback on how to improve your idea. But if you don’t hear back within 48 hours, assume that the editor will not write back.
