As Nigerians groan under the weight of harsh economic conditions, Take it Back Movement, a human rights group, on Monday, mobilized its members to protest in Ojuelegba and other areas across the state, The Cable reports.
The protesters joined others who have held similar demonstrations across other parts of Nigeria, including Niger State; Ibadan, Oyo State, Benin City, Edo State, among others.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had called for nationwide demonstration over the high cost of living and other economic challenges which has bedeviled Nigeria in the wake of the removal of fuel subsidy and the free float of the Nigerian Naira.
The NLC demonstration is scheduled for Tuesday but members of the Take It Back Movement decided on an early start.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, said the command would not tolerate actions that would disrupt commercial activities during the planned protest.
He called on the protestors not to engage in any unlawful act that would infringed on the rights of other Nigerians as defaulters would be punished.
