The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a Certificate of Return to Rauf Age-Suleiman, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Amuwo-Odofin Constituency II in the March 2023 elections.

The Court of Appeal had on November 17, 2023 nullified the election of Olukayode Doherty of the Labour Party (LP) and declared Age-Suleiman as the winner of the election.

The Certificate of Return was presented to Age-Suleiman on Wednesday by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Lagos State, Prof. Ayobami Salami.

Prof. Salami congratulated Age-Suleiman on his victory and urged him to use his position to serve the people of his constituency and Lagos State as a whole.

Rauf was first elected to the Assembly in 2019 and would be serving his second term with this re-election.

In his response, Age-Suleiman expressed his gratitude to the people of his constituency for their support and promised not to disappoint them.

“Nothing but prayers has made this a possibility. I am happy that I got justice. It is a good thing to vent your grievances about an election in court, and we have got back our victory.

“I will continue to do what my constituents want and my commitment is to make my people happy,” Age-Suleiman, reacted.

Ikeja Record had earlier reported that the only two Labour Party representatives at the Lagos Assembly, Olukayode Doherty and Foluke Osafile face the risk of losing their seats after the Lagos State Election Petitions Tribunal sacked both of them in September.
