Nigeria’s consumer protection agency, FCCPC, has assured customers of Ikeja Electric and other discos that it is looking into the phase-out of the Unistar prepaid meters.
Ikeja Electric earlier this month announced that it is phasing out the Unistar meters by November 14 and asked customers to apply for new ones, leading some customers to conclude they would pay for the replacement or be placed on estimated billing.
“We cannot allow consumers to be unfairly charged or placed on estimated billing. This would be a violation of existing regulations,” the FCCPC said.
