Residents, motorists to experience traffic as Tinubu visits

President Bola Tinubu is expected today in Lagos State and as usual with such visits, motorists should look forward to significant traffic disruptions due to road closures and security measures put in place by his protocol teams along some routes. The most impacted routes are those along the Airport road through Oshodi to the Third Mainland Bridge leading to Tinubu’s residence in Ikoyi, the Guardian Newspaper reported.

Lagos to install 3,000 smart cameras for traffic regulation and e-policing

Lagos will install 3,000 smart cameras on major roads to regulate traffic and enhance monitoring. The Director of the Vehicle Inspection Service, Mr. Akin-George Fashola disclosed this during a radio programme on Tuesday, explaining that the cameras will monitor speed limits and serve as an electronic policing tool for the government.

LPV technologies inaugurates solar panel facility in Ikotun

LPV Technologies, an indigenous solar energy company, has launched a new solar panel manufacturing facility in Ikotun, to address Nigeria’s energy challenges and reduce dependence on imported panels. The company’s Executive Director, Yinka Adelodun, urged the Nigerian government to adopt a zero-import policy for solar panels, boosting local production. With Nigeria’s electrification rate at just 60%, LPV Technologies believes solar energy can help close the electricity gap and drive economic growth,Punch Newspaper reported.

Lagos set to regulate traditional birth attendants, medicine practices 

To improve maternal and child health outcomes, the Lagos State Ministry of Health organized a High-Level Stakeholders’ Meeting to discuss regulating the activities of Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) in the state. A 15-member committee was established to review TBA operations and the wider practice of traditional medicine in Lagos. The committee, made up of representatives from the Ministry of Health, SOGON, PAN, LSTMB, NANNM, LSBTS, WHO, and other stakeholders, will evaluate current challenges, propose regulatory measures, and submit a detailed report for further review.

LASHMA warns residents against paying ILERA EKO premiums into private accounts

The Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) has warned residents not to pay their ILERA EKO Health Insurance premium into any private bank account. Permanent Secretary of LASHMA, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, emphasized that the agency operates a zero cash policy, and payments should only be made into the Lagos State Health Fund (LASHEF) account, the official account for health insurance funds in the state. She also addressed a false WhatsApp message claiming that LASHMA is not activating enrollees, clarifying that the activation process begins on the 26th of each month, following the premium payment cutoff on the 25th. Dr. Zamba urged the public to disregard the misinformation.

Sanwo-Olu visits Starium Detergents plant in Alaro City

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, recently visited the Starium Detergents facility in Alaro City, Epe, accompanied by key officials, including Commissioners and Special Advisers. The Governor was welcomed by the CEO of Starium Holdings, Kabiru Rabiu, and led on a tour of the state-of-the-art detergent plant, the second-largest in Nigeria. Rabiu highlighted the company’s plans to expand its production line and begin exporting to West African markets, filling a gap left by previous existing multinationals. 

Power surge sparks fire at police barracks, destroys nine rooms

A power surge is believed to have caused a fire that destroyed nine rooms on the second floor of a police barracks in Mushin. An eyewitness suggested the surge triggered the blaze, but the police are still investigating the incident, and the exact cause remains unknown, the Punch Newspaper reported.

Agboyi community secondary school nears completion

The Agboyi Community Secondary School is rapidly approaching completion, with construction advancing to the next phase as the roof columns are being prepared. The Executive Chairman of the Agboyi-Ketu Local Council, Dele Oshinowo shared this update on his X platform. The school will offer modern classrooms, science and ICT labs, and a library, ensuring quality education and new opportunities for the youth in the Agboyi riverine community.

Proprietor sues FCMB for ₦2 Billion over alleged illegal sale of property

A Lagos-based school proprietor, Pastor Sunday Omonivi Enikuomehin, has filed a ₦2 billion compensation claim against First City Monument Bank (FCMB) over the alleged illegal sale of his school property, Goodwill Private Schools in Ikorodu. Enikuomehin accuses the bank of fraud and collusion, vowing to take the matter to court. He argues that the sale was conducted without his consent and is seeking compensation for the damages, Sahara Reporters reported.

Political group urges loyalists to protect PVCs ahead of council polls

A political group under the ruling All Progressive Congress in Lagos mainland has urged its loyalists to safeguard their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) ahead of the upcoming council polls in the state, the Nation Newspaper reported. The call was made during the group’s first monthly meeting of 2025, held at the Herbert Macaulay Primary School in Yaba.
