The National Stadium, Surulere, is one of few places in Lagos Mainland where residents can play lawn tennis.
The Stadium, which houses the National Institute of Sports and a variety of sporting facilities, was built in 1972, and provides a space for individuals to engage in various sports, including lawn tennis.
During a recent visit to the stadium’s lawn tennis court, located along Western Avenue, Ikeja Record spoke with a court official who said the facility welcomes both casual players and registered members.
To gain access to the court, players are required to register with a coach on-site.
Non-members are allowed to play two to three times a week between 6 am and 3:30 or 4pm, while registered members have exclusive access from 4 pm onwards and can play all day on weekends.
The official also added that it is compulsory for players to bring their own racket and kits to participate, although rental options are available for those without rackets.
