The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce has carried out a midnight operation, targeting unlawful activities across the Akowonjo-Egbeda area.
The raid aimed to address issues like illicit drug sales, street trading, and traffic violations that have caused disturbance in the area, according to a statement from the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.
The operation, which lasted for about four hours, covered Shobo and Jimoh bus stops. This corridor has been afflicted by illegal activities, including street vendors interrupting roadways and drug dealers operating under their cover, the statement said.
According to Wahab, the coordinated operation resulted in the arrest of 187 suspects.
Makeshift stalls and illegal structures were also demolished, and commodities being sold in unauthorized spaces, along with other items, were seized.
“Suspects arrested will all be charged to court accordingly,” the commissioner said.
